Gay or Homosexual

I am studying Sociology and I want to know if "gays" and "lesbians" perfer to be distinctively address as such or would rather be intitled "homosexuals"

hmm in my part of the world, we have no problems being termed gays or lesbians. we have other terms within our community instead of the word 'gay'.
In general, most people use the term PLU (People like us) as a more generic term.
