Do you know Gerd Muller?

Gerd Muller - Gerd Müller (IPA—German: [g??t 'm?l?]) (born November 3, 1945 in Nördlingen) is a former (West) German football player and one of the world's most prolific goalscorers of all time.

With national records of 68 goals in 62 international appearances, 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga games and the international record of 66 goals in 74 European Club games, he was by far the most successful striker of his day. Only Josef Bican, Romário and Pelé are higher on the all-time goalscorer ranking. His nicknames are “Bomber der Nation” (the nation's Bomber) and “kleines dickes Müller” (short fat Müller, declension intentionally wrong).

In 1970 Müller was elected European Footballer of the Year after a successful season at Bayern Munich and scoring 10 goals at the 1970 FIFA World Cup.

I've never seen him play, because I was born after he stopped playing. Is anyone here that seen him back in the day? What was he like? I'm starting this discussion because I see on a football site that it's his 62nd birthday. I heard his name, but I never seen him play. I also did not see him live in any matches, but the little that I have seen of his past matches shoes that he was a clinical finisher. He had the penchant to pop-up at the right places at the right moment and finish off any of the moves. Muller also was good at headed goals and thus that made him that much more clinical. The statistics tell his effectiveness in front of the goal. Cheers! Ram

Gerd Muller was the most prolific scorer in the World Cups in the seventies. He was also exceptional in the Bundesliga where he used to ply his trade. Unfortunately, he was also before my time and hence I have not seen him play other than the snippets which they show before World Cups. Cheers! Ram

It's a good think we have at least these snippets. There are so many events that aren't recorded...

i never seen him play either. but, my father (who's a fan of germany) told me that he was a very accurate goalscorer. he was a threat especially if he gets the ball inside the penalty area. out of 10 shots he did inside the box, 8 would probably hits the net. i was impressed. wish i was there to see him play

One of the German Legends... Don't know much about him... All I knew was that he held the scoring record that Ronaldo broke on WC2006... maybe in the next WC the record would come back to a German.... (Miroslv Klose)
