does a cd burner have to go through a computor?

Can a CD burner be hooked to a stereo system to burn CDs like you hook a cassete deck to record tapes? so far a few peopel I've asked have said they don't think so, you have to download music onto your computor, then burn onto a CD.

you can get stand alone cd burners that don't need a computer but I think you need to buy the more expensive cdrs that marked as audio rather than data for then (at least that's what the companies reccomend).
