I went to the cemetery the other day and I was amazed at the photo opportunies there, they really make cemeteries beautiful places to be these days, once upon time they were sad eerie places now they are relaxing and visually beautiful well this particular one is, do all cemetery workers make these places look beautiful these days, this one has rows and rows of roses and daisies and trees with several lakes, it really is a nice place to be. Is your local cemetery beautiful?

I was once allowed to photograph the ancient, old cemetery that is next to the one church in my neighborhood and dates back to the late 1600s and early 1700s. The trees that are there must be just as old and there are a few flowering bushes that are so beautiful, and only "bloom" in fall rather than the spring--so yes, a very unique scene that most people miss

I loved looking around at the old graves when I was doing my family tree but none were that old here in Australia.

Oh I got lucky on that score. Right next to the church I was talking about is the even older Dutch Reformed Church. They have a very small cemetery there. One day I was meandering in there and saw the headstones. Some were from the 1700s and had some of the members of the Debevoise family, and my mouth dropped! You see, my great-grandmother's brother's wife was a descendant of that family. It was an old Dutch family that settled in areas of what is now Brooklyn and Queens in 1659 when New York was still known as New Amsterdam. So I was aghast to have found that some of the early ancestors had been buried there. The tombstone were in Dutch, but I knew a little German which is fairly similar and was able to translate what was on the tombstones...weird no? I mean to find those ancestors??

A Graveyard in Charleston, South Carolina at night - Taken with a Canon Digital Rebel Xt at night
Cemetarys and Grave Yards make interesiting places to take photos. I took this one in charlston, South Carolina, at night. I like the effect of the street lights. There is much history in them and people need to spend time to understand the community and its history.

Our local cemetary is very old and very small... people do their best to keep it nice, and it really isn't too bad. The place where my Pop and stepmom are is a beautiful park... its hard to tell that its a cemetary. People love to go there and spend time with those who are gone. I've only been twice, because I keep Pop in my head and in my heart... the stone on the ground only marks where the REST of him is!

Upon reading your post regarding beautiful cemeteries, i can't help but also share this unique private family cemetery located within our town. I said unique because it is in the middle of the highway! Yes, you read it right, it is situated at the intersection of two highways. Mabuhay!

Our cemetery is absolutely gorgeous. It has many old oak trees, and evergreens all over the grounds. And the grounds keepers work very hard to keep it nice. They even place flowers on the graves themselves sometimes to keep it nice looking and to honor the families.

Our little local cemetary is rather forlorn looking in a boring sort of way. A lot of the graves are actually unmarked. Yours sounds just lovely. Some cemetaries I notice have interesting looking sections and a lot of older ones are very crowdwed with no grassy areas at all. The push here is for cremation with neat little plots with a memorial stone. I feel that more could be done in the way of peaceful, serene settings to give a feeling of loved ones st rest in tranquility.

That photo shows such a pretty, and well cared-for cemetary; they don't have to be dismal and eerie places, do they? The cemetary in Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia, is very much the same - such a beautiful place to stroll around. My friend lost her teenage daughter a few years ago, and she is laid to rest in a beautiful spot there with shade trees and flowers all around. It's very comforting to be there.

I picked this place when my father passed away, it was even more beautiful, some of the trees had wind chimes and things hanging from them by the families of the people buried under the trees , I thought this is a nice place for my dad but later the cemetery admin. removed all the the wind chimes, sad really.

dear friend, i do find my local cemetary beautiful because i go there often to visit my parents. i was there yesterday to hang a birdhouse by my father's gravesite, for his birthay which was on veterans day november ll. he always fed the birds way back even when i was a child, and taught his children to be kind and compassionate to all God's creatures, especialy in the harsh and severely cold winters in new york state here. the cemetary is beautiful as it is one of the most historical places in town. the town fathers and citizens always held events there and picnics there in the 1800's. there are some very old headstones and big massive sculptures in there and the cemetary borders on a forest which is listed as a national landmark in the united states. stanzi

There is one in Memphis that is very pretty to get pictures taken. There is pretty waterfall up front and all through the cemetary, there are trees, brickwalls and other fountains that make it perfect for photography.

There is a huge cemetary not far from where I live that is absolutely gorgeous. My Dad is buried there and it helps so much to have so much beauty to look at while I'm grieving. I knew a guy who was the head of the maintenance crew there and they worked their butts off keeping the place nice. There are at least two ponds that I know of and some of the lovliest trees and flowers.

Cemetary in Havana - Cemetary in Havana with all marble tombs. Statues and intricate carvings
Our cemetary is also very well kept and eerily beautiful. I was in Cuba last year and we visited the big cemetary in Havana. It was unbelievable. The tombs were amazing with big marble statues on all of them and intricate carvings. We took lots of photos there and it was a great experience. I've never seen such a beautiful place.
