How do I accept credit card payments online?

My collegemates all over the world are trying to raise some money for charity which we can give as a donation for the New Year. How do we collect this money together? The guys in India can probably send in checks or Demand Drafts, but is there any way that friends in other places can pay directly into my credit card account or my bank account and do the transaction online? Which is the best option and what will be the fees incurred? The amounts will be small and I need to keep it secure. Hope I get some useful suggestions here. Thanx in advance
