Last night I started wrapping Christmas Gifts....

My wrapped Christmas gifts! - wrapped Christmas gifts
United States
November 4, 2007 8:27am CST
I had the urge to go down into the basement and bring up all the Christmas stuff I keep down there. I wanted to see what I have and if anything what I am going to need. What really gets me is I know I have more somewhere but can't remember where it could be. Anyway...I decided that since it's all up here now that I would wrap the gifts I have just to get them out of the way. To be honest I think I was feeling lonely and needed something to cheer me up and it worked! So, now I have this small pile of gifts all wrapped and waiting for me to get into my "last phase" of gift wrapping which is making bows and putting them on! Do you think I started too soon? Do you enjoy wrapping gifts or would you rather have someone else do it for you? Are you a last minute gift wrapper?

I like wrapping Christmas gifts. It makes me feel all festive and cheery, and excited about Christmas being so close. I don't think you really started too early. If you already had some gifts to wrap, there's nothing wrong with getting a head start. Plus, time flies, and Christmas will be here sooner than we know it! I say have fun, especially if it lifts your spirits!

You are right about the time flying! There's nothing I hate more than having to rush through gift wrapping. I'm very particular about how my gifts look when I give them to someone.

I ofen buy the gifts ,but they get wrapped buy the sellers or stores for free.Perhaps the labor is too expensive in America that you ofen have to do it yourself. But I think this is the funny job,and the beneficiary will appreciate your work.Best wishes to you!

There was a time when I had the stores wrap Christmas gifts for me but one time I took a free course in gift wrapping and enjoyed it so much I always do it myself now.

It's been such a long time since I've bought anything in that type of store that I don't know if it's free any more. I really doubt it.

Is gift wrap still free at stores? I remember years ago they'd do that but then it started costing and the paper wasn't that fun or nice - sometimes even with the stor logo on it so I never bothered -even when it was free. But i remember always wanting to get a holiday job in the gift wrapping section at a store - never fullfilled that dream!

I hate wrapping gifts. Mostly, it's because I'm so bad at it. Nothing matches, the lines are always crooked, and no matter how neat I try to be, I always rip the paper. LOL! Oh well. I'm glad you started before me. I was actually thinking I needed to start soon, too. My closets are full, and the only way to empty them without kids knowing what is in there, is to wrap the suckers. :) I'm glad the chore cheered you up. If you need cheering again, you can come help me out. I'll even put on some Chrismas music, and make homemade cocoa. (with chocolate marshmallows!)

Sometimes the bigger stores have a free class on gift wrapping which I took many years ago and loved. Maybe you should check into that for yourself you might enjoy it. Ok, I'm into the wrapping but it takes a looong time before I can listen to Christmas music. That's a sore spot with me around christmas because it depresses me so much.

I usually wrap gifts soon after they are bought, less chance of any peeking lol. I like wrapping them myself, and I won't be far behind you, I'm waiting on a gift to arrive that I bought for my boyfriend, so I'll have to wrap that one after work one day before he gets home. I usually don't decorate for Christmas til the weekend after Thanksgiving, but for some reason this year, I'm having to fight the urge to go into the attic and start bringing things downstairs lol. I am a last minute gift wrapper for his gifts though, of course he's also a last minute shopper, for some things.

It's great that your husband is good at gift wrapping. I used to have a boyfriend who had me do it for him every year. But I enjoyed it and didn't mind.

I start the day after Thanksgiving - well that weekend. When I was working it was the ideal time to start and have time to do it right. I ahve been so straped for money these last years, that the pressents are few and with the kids not wanting anything that I can afford (or even know what it all is) I did GC's last year and they loved them so I think I'll just do that again. I bought Starbucks gift cards and asked the clerk for empty cups with lids. She thought I was nuts, and I just said - they are gifts andt he cups are the wrappers. I "serverd coffee" at our gathering and handed the girls their "cup of coffee" - told them I splurged and got us all some - and then they opened it and was thrilled at the contents! I dont like last minute christmas, why wait till then? You loose the spirit if you don't get to play in it for a few weeks prior!

That's an awesome idea! I think I"m going to do that with my sons belove Dunkin Donuts gc this year. While we're opening gifts I'll give him his coffee in the cup and have the gc in it! Thanks for the great idea!

That is a great idea! I always send my sister a good book and flavored coffee and a coffee mug, but I'm thinking this year she'll get a gc in a cup along with her book. Thanks for the idea, she loves Starbucks

Well wrapping Christmas presents is one way to cheer yourself up, I don't have pressies to wrap anymore, my friends and I have decided not to buy presents any more we are all going out to some nice place for dinner instead. But I have bought myself my special Christmas treat with my Mylot money and I have wrapped that up for myself to open on Christmas day....

Hello Ctrymuklvr, I wrapped this years first Christmas gift almost a month ago. So, of course I don't think you started too early. I only wrapped the one that early because it is for Hubby. And, I've found that the best hiding place for his gifts is right out in the open, wrapped but disguised. I'll share a bit of idiosynchratic humor with you. Sometimes I'll wrap & label gifts throughout the year. Then by the time Christmas comes along, I've all but forgotten what I've (or we've) given to whom. It puts a bit of surprise back into the gift giving for me too. If putting on a bit of Christmas cheer succeeded in brightening your day, then I'd call it great therapy. Enjoy!

I'll share one with you...when my kids were small they would sometimes open gifts that they thought were theirs when we were sleeping or at work. To remedy that situation I started putting the different tags on the gifts so they wouldn't know what was thiers. Usually never putting anything with their names on them until Christmas eve.

usually we're last minute wrappers but this yr I'm thinkin I'll get it started as the prezzies get here (which begins today actually) just so I dont have to do it all on the 23rd like I usually do....I'm seriously NOT into Xmas this yr..not that I am any yr mind you (bad time of yr for me) but this yr I'm REALLY REALLY not into it...I'd just as soon pack up the family and go to the islands for the holidays and not worry about trees, snow, prezzies, cooking, baking etc etc....

You are way ahead of me. I haven't even bought any Christmas gifts yet, although I have been thinking about what to get various people. I am waiting to get my husbands tax cheque before I start buying gifts. Mainly I buy gifts in November & December. I have 30 people to buy for. I wrap all the gifts & I don't mind doing this. It can be quite a lot of fun.

Luckily I don't have that many people to buy gifts for and have been able to pick up some great buys online. I do love gift wrapping for any occasion.

I have no idea what to get anyone for Christmas this year, I am never this bad. But wrapping, oh yes, I remember calling people up at 3 AM Chirstmas morning asking if they had extra wrapping paper I could have. (only people I was real good friends with)

Too bad we're not neighbors. I always have way more wrapping paper than I need. Even when I have a lot left at the end I pick up the great bargains when Christmas if over...just in case...lol....

i really don't like wrapping christmas presents and really like to remember what is in the package that the person is getting, if i wrap them too early, i forget (i generally make a list of everything i have bought) but i have already made gift tags and will prolly start wrapping this week.

No, I don't think you started too soon. I have had stuff coming in the mail that I ordered online, and I've been wrapping it as it comes in. That's the only way for me to keep the rest of the family from being curious and peeking. I love wrapping, as long as I'm only wrappping a few gifts at a time. If I wait and do them all at once, it just feels way too overwhelming.

I feel the same way. My husband likes me to wait so we can think about the gift distributions and different things. I end up one night being forced to get them done by the morning in order to get them in the mail. I am often overwhelmed by the whole process.

In such case I am a lazy fellow. I keep it for the last time and sometimes ask someone to do for it.

I'm a last minute gift wrapper. Good on you for being so organised. I haven't even started on mine except for the things I ordered online with my sons art work on them. Other than that I still have a lot to buy!

Wow! I haven't even started my Christmas shopping yet so I'm no where near even close to wrapping lol. I am not last minute by any means, but I'm not that far ahead either lol. Glad that it cheered you up! PurpleTeddyBear.

That's a good idea if you're going to be passing out lots of gifts, ctry. My circle of family and friends is kind of small, so I will usually wait until just before the big day arrives. There is something magical about wrapping gifts that can really put you into the spirit of the season. I'm glad that you were cheered and hope that you will have many more gifts to wrap.

I love wrapping xmas gifts. But I feel like i am rebelling this year because I haven't even looked at anything xmas in the stores. Are you finished shopping already? I started last year saying "I am going to shop all year". That soon ended, and I guess about February I gave up on that. I wish i would have shopped all year for gifts, it would have been nice to be ahead of the game. Maybe I can do that next year. :)

Finished? I don't think so but I'm well on my way. I still have 2 boxes coming in the mail from orders I put in online plus 2 avon orders one of which will come today. I'm usually picking up gifts right to the end!
