8-Track Music

My husband just acquired an 8-track player and some tapes from a friend. He was thriled with this! I came home earlier this week to hear some great music playing. He had the 8-track player set up and running! Yesterday I found 2 tapes that cost me 49 cents each at the local Goodwill Store. Cheap music and still good. Would you buy an 8-track player or accept one as a gift? I remember years ago having one and later selling it and all of my tapes at a tag sale. It was replaced by the latest technology, a cassette player.

I still have some of my old cassate tapes and records. I don't really have the money to replace them all so I still listen to my cassetes. I wish I could find a old record player truthfully.

I love the sound of vinyl. My daughter has my vinyl collection, but it is in storage. I too would love a record player so I could get the vinyl back.

That would be a great present for my mom for Christmas. She has a lot of records from the 60's and I have tons from the 80's.

I remember them, but really would not listen to the music anymore. We thought it was neat when our van came with one in it. My dad still has them.

He thinks it is so cool that you can buy the music for pennies. There are a lot of good tapes to be had if you know where to find them. Now if we can only convert them to cd!

I remember we had a reel to reel. I'm not sure what an 8 track is. Cassettes came next for us and weren't they the crappiest things, so expensive and so easily broken or stretched. I still have a lot of LPs, though I've sold some off at garage sales...and I have several 45s too. The trouble is, turntables are quite expensive. My last one hardly lasted anytime as the drive belt perished quite quickly.

I couldn't help laughing as I read the beginning of your discussion, Elusive. It reminded me so much of my ex who always managed to find things from the past and bring them home. I didn't really mind because he would actually use and enjoy them. He once brought home an old Atari game system, and we got a lot of mileage out of it. I do believe that one man's junk is another man's treasure.

Hello elusive butterfly. It is still a nice gift from your friend about the 8-track player though it is not so popular as we are having more advanced music players. I also have tape-recorders to play some music and listen to radio every day when I get up in the morning. It is still very nice and I love it.

Oh lucky you. I think you have acquired a treasure. I used to have an 8 track player and tons of tapes but got rid of them a long time ago. I must tell you I had many, many enjoyable hours listening to mine and played the tapes until I practically wore them out. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

How funny. Come to think of it, our old stereo system has an 8-track tape player on it. And we might still have some old tapes packed away somewhere. Amazing isn't it, that some of the kids now won't even know what that is?

We were in the process of painting our bedroom and moved the antique stereo into the middle of the floor. We too were listening to Albums and 8 tracks. This thing is great. It still works perfectly. I love it as you cant seem to find CD's with various artists on it like you could on 8 track and album.

I have many happy memories of driving around in my Mustang listening to 8-track tapes at a time when they were the newest thing. Back then, there were not that many to choose from, but I had some good ones. I have a cd player in my car now, and it's a great stereo system, but it doesn't seem to have the same quality as the old 8-track player system. My husband has been restoring an old 67 Barracuda, and I've been thinking it would be nice to have an 8-track player installed to make it more authentic.

I never had an 8 track player but I remember really wanting one as a kid. My parents did not have the money for one. It just came and went so quickly. I actually went from reel to reel and albums , 45's right into cassettes.

I like 8 track players because we used to have one when I was growing up. It was definitely the technology of the 70's. I don't know if I would want one now because the sound quality of new technology is so much better. It's great for nostalgia, if you really like them a lot. Maybe I would have one around the home for a while just to bring back memories, but honestly I would probably just wind up selling in within a couple of years to clear space for other things.

Wow an 8 track. Maybe you should check some different sites to see what it's worth. a friend of mine thinks the tapes are worth more than the player. Enjoy the music. My mother has a stero with one of those installed. Wonder if it still works.
