How do you stay close to a friend that lives far away?

One of my best friends lives 400 miles away from my home. And, most times we don't get to speak by phone. She's got a really busy schedule with her kid's school activities and such. So, she doesn't have lots of time to hang out chatting on the phone all day. So, most times we have to stay in touch other ways. Sometimes I'll send her greeting cards or letters by mail. Other times, we exchange emails. Email's are usually the most convenient way to keep each other updated on the latest events and happenings. Other times we've talked in a private chat room. That's one of my favorite ways to stay in touch with friends. Even though you can't hear the other person's voice, you still feel as if they are really there with you. How do you keep in touch with your best friend who lives very far away? Do you send her letters or emails? Talk by phone? How do you connect with another person that lives far away without talking to them personally? What type of things do you do to keep your long distance friendships alive?

I have an email penpal in Australia who I email, send pictures and do the web cam thing with weekly. I also have a daughter and grandson in California and we seldom email but use our web cams and microphones to talk to and see each other. Myspace is also a great place because my daughter is a musician and puts her videos on her space for me to see.

I would have to say I would talk on the phone to my friend. Or email them. I really hate when we live so far away from the people we love. Its a reall bummer.

There is one friend of mine who lives in a very far place. She was my college friend. But we maintain our communication through text messages and yahoo messenger. Now, she is here for a week and we spend good times together. I believe that it is important that we keep our communication so that we will maintain a good friendship with our friends even they are far away.

I think, although she is far away from you, you can also send your friends some gifts by make an order on the inernet. Now, there are a lot of website can offer this kind of service. If your friends are in China, I think, I can give you some useful informatin. I have a friend in US. Last monday was my birthday, she made an order on a website. Then, in the afternoon, I received a gift basket filled with chocolates and fruits. That is wanderful. You can have a try. I had copy the website for you. 800chinabaskets.com I hope that it can help you improve your friendship with your friends.

One of my dearest friends is someone I have known since 2nd grade - almost 40 years. We only lived in the same neighborhood for about 2 years, then her family moved away - about 200-300 miles away. We wrote back and forth probably once a week. A couple times a year, her family would come back to visit and we'd get to see each other. Her sister and my sister are the same way with each other. When I was in High School, I moved out west - about 1500 miles away - and we continued to write all the time. We went about 7 years without seeing each other, but still wrote and called sometimes. I moved back to the east coast and we visit each other once a year or so. We chat on-line and e-mail, we also call each other whenever we want. I guess we always wanted that friendship, so we kept it going. We always have a blast whenever we hook up. It's my turn next to go to her house for a visit. Probably wont be until next spring though...

I think you're doing a pretty good job to keep in contact with your best friend ;) ..nowadays there are many mediums of communication for us to keep in touch with one another. If it was me, I'd probably send emails and definitely chat via IMs. maybe i'll try to use the phone chat thigie that most IMs have. I'll send a card or a gift during birthdays, text messages etc..and if we have the time, we could also probably visit each other!

Hello beauty queen. I have several options to communicate with my faraway friends by sending emails, using Yahoo Messenger, Skype, QQ and sending text messages via my mobile phone. Sometimes I just call my faraway friends by my cell phone directly.

I do the same as you. I always find a way to keep in touch. My best friend and I have been friends for nearly 40 years and over the years distance and circumstances have often kept us from spending much time together. Still we always managed to keep our friendship alive. Occassionally she will drop by for coffee and it's so cool. months could have passed since we last saw each other but we pick right up as if no time had passed.

We do text almost daily. She is working, I am also working. I sent her cards on special occassions and she also sent me. We chat also and as if we are personally talking. She makes it a point that she comes to our place for some official business, as her work requires her to attend to. So we were able to see each other personally. And on some occassions to her place I see to it that I go there also, to enjoy the occassion and to see her and her family at the same time. We are very close now although we met only about 2 years ago and would you believe over the sky, in an airplane while I am in my way home from my seminar abroad and she on her vacation with some friends.

This is really my situation.i am from Europe living in USA and have all the friends back there in Europe.we would skype for chatting or calling to each other. Also I would send some e-mails to my friends I use letters only with my paretns, since it takes a little bit long and not everybody have a time for taht to take it to the post office and so.i think e-mails are probably the best way to keep in touch.

I usally send letters by mail. It seems more personal to me to get a letter or a card by mail and very nice. Also chatting online I like doing also.

My best friend live in different country, she is still single. So we always contact by email, chat, SMS and in case of emergency phone! Her work is online all the time, so we can chat anytime or just leave the message she will come back to me as soon as she is free. I only send greeting cards for her birthday, new year.

Beautyqueen26, I stay close to a friend that lives far away by communicating to him through chatting with webcam. The advances in communication made things in keeping in touch possible.
