Have you heard of cockfighting? It is the most famous pasttime here in the Philippines. Our province is known for producing the most "game" fighting cockerels all over the country. I don't quite like it because it takes only a few seconds for a rooster that you took care of for two years to die. people join it and post the pot money, which is then pooled together to become the major prizes. but i think that more than the pot money, money is pouring when it comes to side bets. and these men bet really hard, even if they have bet their owl souls just for a rooster. That is why I can't understand why men here are addicted to it. By the way, it's called "sabong" in our country. PS. I privy to cockfighting because i have interviewed many gamefowl breeders and cockfighters in our country. i have travelled the country in search for them. hehehe by the way, a gamefowl breeder is one who raises and takes care of the birds. he can also be a cockfighter, because he also joins derbies. but a cocker doesn't grow the birds--he just buys them, have them conditioned, and enter them in derbies. so that's cockfighting 101 for you.:-)
