I am watching the movie Fame and in the beginning each teacher said that their class was the hardest.I always thought that dance was the hardest because you have to use all of your body, from head to toe. and then I think acting is the second hardest because you have to really know yourself and use your pass experiences. And music comes so easy.Maybe it is because I can sing and play instruments that I think music is the easiest. What do you think?

Well, I only know music, so I do not think I am qualifed to fairly answer this question. In my opinion, one related concept is that much modern art and music is a dumbed down version of art. Modern dance does not seem to be that much easier. Just an opinion. djbtol

I was not intending to offend or insult anyone, so don't be. Just the same, you posed the question and established that it was OK to make comparisons between different art forms. So I did. In many ways art forms have changed over the years. It used to be that a great painting was a portrait that made you feel like you know the person, or a landscape that is so realistic it stirs your emotions. Many modern day artists say what ever I sling against the canvas is art. Not because it looks like anything, but because I the artist say it represents something. Is all music equal? 3 guitar players and a drummer can make and sell cds today. You are telling me that is equal to the great composers, or even to a modern composer that has spent years studying music? I don't think so. Music and music composition is actually very complex and involved, for those who choose to study it. I'm not talking about a folk song one might throw together in a couple of afternoons. djbtol

All I am saying is one man's art is another's trash. We all have our favorites and the forms we hate.I believe all art forms are equal because there are people who love them.I may not get it, but that doesn't make it less powerful to someone.

Music isn't dumbed down. If you don't get it, that is okay but to call any form of art as "dumbed down" is insulting.

In my view music is hardest since one must have knowledge of music instruments and music creation to develop right music. But in acting its not the case and same dancing . Dancing in my view is the easiest as you only need to synchronize body with music....... Hare Krishna Ganesh

Dancing is hard. Many can't move to the best of music. Being a musician , I see music as the easiest!

I think it depends on the natural gifts of the person in question. Some folks simply cannot act, while others are naturals, and need very little training. Often those that find acting most difficult are outgoing rock performers..natural extroverts. Many actors are ambiverts: either introverted extroverts, or extroverted intros. I would say I'm one and acting always came easily to me, and yet I always hated auditions (the introvert side). Music too: I've a natural aptitude for music, which is to say the popular musics of rock and jazz/swing/lounge, and yet not classical. I like classical, but it was never my thing in terms of playing. As for dance...this would be the most difficult discipline for me, my long-standing love of freestyle disco dancing nothwithstanding. I've always been restless, and have never liked things that came hard to me. Classical dancing is a very tough discipline; like classical music. Classical acting is also hard, but I never had any trouble with Shakespeare; it came quite easily to me...today, it's a real passion of mine.

Since I can sing and play classical music, it seems so easy to me.I would never have the guts to use my past memories to bring a character to life.It just seems so difficult. But the worse for me would be dance. I can dance to disco or some of the songs from the 80's but classical dance? Modern dance? I could never do it.i would rather play a waltz than dance it.

Thanks alot for voting me best response! I have always enjoyed dancing too; but not in a formal setting. I learned to waltz a bit at acting school decades ago, but never wished to develop this or ballroom dancing as a whole.

I would pick dance as the hardest...I played many musical instruments, but my daughter has taken dance since age 2...15 years now, she does tap, jazz, and ballet. If she's not dancing, she is weightlifting, running, or watching her diet. She has to eat and drink certain food an drinks before, during, and after dancing and her workouts. She plays the Flute and piano. She also has had the lead in the school play for the last 3 years, 2 musicals, 1 comedy. She said dance is the hardest for her and she doubts she will be good for a long time yet.

Wow.Your daughter is a triple threat. Does she want to dance or act for a living? Thank her for answering my question. I always thought that dance, especially ballet, would be the hardest.

Fantastic. Keep me posted if I can see her on t.v. I think it is great that she wants to do anime And wants to open a dance studio. A dancer's life is hard and short, so that she wants to do something along side her dancing is great.

I think each are hard in their own way. As a musician, I'm biased. I am a clarinet player, and it has many technicalities. One thing wrong, and it just sounds bad. For example, the embouchure, or how the lips/mouth is form is a crucial part for a good sound. Slight changes in tension, pressure, etc. can change the sound drastically. It's this slight muscle memory and control that is one of the hardest thing to play the instrument. To coordinate fingers, tonguing, and air stream is hard also. With any other instrument, there are changes to minor muscles, which is harder to control than larger muscles (say, leg muscles). But I have friends who are dancers and I would probably never be able to do the stuff they do. Acting is hard also, as it also requires control over emotions and slight details (like facial muscles). Being good at any of the aforementioned is worth praise.

I play the violin so I know what you mean. When you first star out , you sound awful. But like everything else, with practice you get better. But I always thought wind instruments were harder to learn and play.

You are making me glad I stayed with string instruments.I never knew how many different things you have to do to play.Wow.

Haha, I think string instruments are pretty hard too. I actually started out on the violin, and I remember how awfully out of tune we were. String instruments are hard, in my opinion, because being slightly off the correct fingering can make the sound slightly (or largely) out of tune.

Generally speaking, I think acting is the hardest. With acting, you have to convince the audience that what you're saying and feeling is real. Someone could take acting lessons, but that only goes so far. Dancing is probably the 2nd hardest. Someone may have no talent for dancing, but it's just getting the right movements in order. And there are different types of dancing, so someone who may be terrible at ballet might be great at tap dancing. Music, if referring to playing an instrument, can be pretty easy because you just have to learn how to get the notes in the right order. To me, it seems to be mostly about memorizing the correct order. Unless you meant singing, then that probably as difficult as acting. Someone could have singing lessons, but they just may not be able to get the notes right.

Music is more than getting the notes on correct order. They all have to be in tune. I was told it takes 20 years to become a violinist. Why? because it takes a long time to not only remember where to put your fingers but to get Everything perfectly in tune. Not Everyone can dance . I chose this as the hardest because you Have to use your whole body. But I do agree with acting. It is so hard to do it well.

I believe all are equally difficult if we are not gifted or vice versa. Anyhow an ungifted person could learn an art through hard work but definitely he couldn’t be an extremely excellent performer. He could only attain the satisfactory level. I believe you are gifted in music as you can do so well in this field.

I guess it depends what talent, gifts and abilities you were born with. You would have to have some ability to get into one of those schools and then you need aptitude so you can learn. You might be good at something in your opinion but having the ability to study your craft is most important. One needs to be able to take direction and learn.

I think that acting would be the hardest, because it is like you have to learn how to do something in the shortest possible time and make it appear on the theater stage or the movie or television scene that you were doing it all your life. So if you are afraid of flying, you may have to pretend to be a pilot and they cannot shoot all the scenes on the ground. They may not have a stunt double available and so the actor has to do the stunts himself. You have to think that you are someone else, and also you may have to keep what you are doing on stage or the set different from real life. So if someone is playing a heart throb and he really is shy and unassuming, he may start swaggering in real life and give a girl the impression that he is that character and then they get married but she is marrying the character he played not the real him.

I heard that one of Rita Hayworth's husbands married her thinking that he was marrying Gilda. And I noticed that most actors that come on Inside the Actors Studio are shy, private people, especially De Niro. And they do enjoy playing someone totally different from themselves.

This is an impossible discussion. As you said yourself, music comes easy to you. However, most great musicians are not great dancers, and I don't think I have ever met a great dancer that was any good a music. (no matter what they may think. Look at Justin Timberlake, haha.) Music comes the easiest to me, but I also took the time and dedication towards it. To me, I would say acting is the easiest to master, even though I do agree that you cannot judge art like this. This is why... Dancing and music take physical and mental strength beyond acting. Dancing may take more physical strength than music, but music takes much more education than dancing. Yes, I am aware of the many different forms of dancing, however, you could show someone how to dance and if they really wanted to they could watch and learn. Music is going to take much more formal education to learn. If you want to understand every mode and scale, the entire theory of music, learn to read the music (which is the equivalent to learning another language), have the proper posture, know the breathing techniques, keep a rhythm, hear and understand intonation, it would take more discipline than dancing. I also didn't even mention drumming, which if you have ever seen some of the best, they will match up to dancing as far as physical abilities. Just because I learned to play piano when I was two, does not mean it is easier by any means. Now, since I have blabbed this far, I should also mention that if you were considering new/modern music, than yes, it is the easiest. Because then we would be talking about three chords and no theory. Having said all that, the important thing is the art is art, and how easy it is or not is not what is important. The important thing is to be creative and express your self.

Dance does takes a different kind of education.True you have to learn to read music , but you don't have to condition your whole body to perform your art.And I know someone who was both a great dancer and a good musician, Fred Astaire. Fred was known for singing and dancing, but it isn't as well known but he could play piano and drums.I agree,to be good at any art form, you have to learn something new and you have to practice. and it all depends on the person and their talent.

Well I've studied all three believe it or not and was an aspiring actress and was a Drama Major in college (boy my family was thrilled..NOT) Yes, I've danced, did learn a little ballet, but was mostly into jazz/modern dance and to keep "limber" one needs to do dance exercises all the time. Actually I think the hardest is also the actor AND dancer/singer...thinking of those actors who perform in musicals. Music? Did study that too as for the easiest? Depends..it does take years and years of practice to become a virtuoso performer of music

Well, I've done all 3, and I personally think that dance is hardest. Music comes naturally to me, so I probably consider it much easier than someone that has a harder time with it but I still think dance is the hardest. In dance, it's not just about hte steps. You have to keep your body in the right shape. You have to stay limber all over. Depending on the type of dance, you have to keep your muscles well toned, but not too toned (lest you lose flexibility).

everybody has his talents and because of that we think that things we can't do, or we are not able to do are the hardest ones. if you have a talent for playing an instrument, well, of course you'll think that that is the easiest one.

To sing is hard..very hard..especially for a human that can't sing..to act is difficult too...to be a good actrice or actor you need to have "glue" for your public...But dancing...dancing is easy..anyone can learn how to dance..it doesn't matter if you dance like Chris Brown, or Rihhana, or someone fameos,in a club you can dance how you like..but..imagine..you have only 5 min and the show starts...you took lessons of singing you know the text...but...when you start singing you don't really have a nice voice...the public hates that voice..soo..you can learn to sing but not anyone has voice for it..acting is the same with music..dancing too....soo... I think they are the same...:very hard all three....

Art knows no discrimination. All disciplines are good and all are tough to master, provided one is dedicated, enthusiastic and willing to take up the challenge, and to those these arts embrace. There are so many young people in India, who perform and attained near perfection in all the three disciplines.

I think the hardest thing is if you have to dance and acting while you also singing :D I think all of them have their own specific difficulty and dicipline. Can't compare one by one, because it also depend on the people's talent.

I would say dancing....it's have very destinct movements and you have to totally coordinate the body and mind and music. I think that music would be next followed by acting.

All 3 are unique and demand specific things from a person who wishes to excel in them .So It is very difficult to say as to which is the most difficult. But I think Dancing might be the toughest as learning exact steps and with a particular Rhythm is a difficult thing to achieve.
