If the occasion arose and you found you had no toilet paper in the house....

Oh my goodness..I forgot to buy toilet paper...wha - Have you ever gotten to the bathroom and realized you hadnt bought toilet paper ... there are subsitutes to the good ole soft tissue..

People in the past have used leaves, newspapers and if needed wash cloths that would have to be cleaned like yo did the ole baby diapers..

Don't dispair with the last strand of toilet tissue you tear:)

What would you do... You are in the bathroom and finishing your business there and you notice you have no toilet paper.. there is none in the whole house..What would you use on an emergency basis. I learned when I was out in Portugal there are other things that can be use.. I would look for newspaper if I had no toilet paper in the house. Of course, I would never flush that down the toilet..I don't usually flush toilet paper down either..

For us, it's the other way round I guess. We use water. So, toilet paper seems strange to us and I found it hard when I first went abroad where we had to use toilet paper. But if I was in a country where toilet paper is generally used and I couldn't find toilet paper, I probably would use newspaper or resort to my water method.

If there is no toilet paper but there are saviettes or disposable towels then I will definately run and pick some. or go outside, cut some leaves from the flowers and use them. If worse comes to worst i will use my handkerchief. am stunned that you dont flash toilet paper! where do you throw them after use? In the trash bin? Oh no.

I have this little ditty someone taught me..If it's yellow let it mellow and if it's brown flush it down..So i use this in matter of flushing..I live in a place where the pipes are old..and so are the landlords..I dont want to cause any unnecessary bills;)

I do throw them in to the bin..and usually there is no smell..I empty the basket when it's full and I do clean it as well. I am only a renter..and I don't want to ruin the pipes ..since my landlords are old.

You really have great ideas. How many people live in the same house as you? do they use the same method of disposing tissue papers as you? I have never tried that trick and I dont think my partner will allow it.

Yes the old outhouse stories I have read spoke of using leaves..Luckily when I had run out I had newspaper in the house..I would hate to go outside looking for leaves;)

The good thing about Finland is that they have this little shower spray, so if there's no toilet paper in the house, first of all I'll clean myself with the shower spray and my fingers of course...then I'll wipe my bottom with my towel and wash my hands with soap. :-D

Wow..this sure really reveals differences between cultures..I don't think I have ever used my hands..it's just not in my upbringing, I would sooner use a washcloth and then clean that but never directly my hands.

He he he he he...yeah, I understand that. I think people in Indo always clean up their bottom with hands. :-D

I am so glad you mentioned that..I never thought of coffee filters..LOL ..but it's nice to know what to do..if you run of tp and you have no money or you can't drive. I do have lots of newspapers and they are really good..people use newspapers to clean windshields and glass so I guess it's absorbant.

if i find no toilet paper left in the bathroom, then i wash..i use water..then i wash my hands well with soap and swear a little haha....i might have napkins or newspapers in the house but if i got to pee before i realised there is no more toilet paper left,i cant just walk around the house like that in search for some paper so i have to use water...i dont like it much cause it immediately starts itching down there..i did have some problems before and had to take pills and ovules..so i wouldnt want to get an infection or smth again

HAHHAH! Ohh myyy!! this has happened to me way more than once lol..I always think i have more than i usually do..lol..soo when i do run out..i first have Sky check to see if any are hidden..then i will just send him over to one of my neighbors..which are all very good friends as well..and they have always sent over some..but if the occasion ever arises that i find nothing..i would take a shower..i never have the paper so that wouldnt work..so a nice shower seems logical to me:) have a good one!

If this happened to me, which has happened, I would use tissue paper to clean myself up. I usually have plenty of tissue paper as well as toilet paper so this has not happened very often. I do not get the newspaper so that would not be a possibility for me. I might use some junk mail laying around too to clean myself.

Junk mail..I suppose you mean the junk mail that comes to your home and not in the email..lol I am glad you keep well stocked my dear friend Ken.

In the Army we called Toilet Paper, "Mountain Money". There were times money didn't mean much, but as you're entry shows, you do know the value of toilet paper when it's really needed. I've used pages from books, leaves, an old bandana, baby wipes and even the empty tube the toilet paper comes rolled around... anything is better than using nothing at all. ;~D

LOL..I have done various things ..but don't think the tube from the toilet paper roll would cut the mustard over here. I do know there must have been a time before toilet paper and I wonder what was their method of hygiene back then.

Well, it depends on where you were from. Up until the mid 1800s most people in the world just accepted the dingleberries as part of life... but then again, they accepted a bath "occasionally" as part of life too, so... ;~D

I dont know if that would happen to me. because I have an attitude of bringing with me toilet paper wherever I go esp in the bathroom. For me tissue paper is something that is necessary to be inside my bag. I have a lot of stock on my house. But just in cse maybe I would use some alternative. I really dont know lols

Usually I am fine..if it's just me..But on occasion I have friends come to visit. and one particular friend is always going to the bathroom and always seems to drain the toilet paper rolls..I sometimes suggest when she comes to visit she bring along a roll:)

We always have facial tissues in our car, so they come handy when we run out of toilet paper...or use table napkins as a good substitute, then use soap and water of course after...I've tried it a few times, and learned my lesson. This time, I always check our stock of toilet papers never allowing again to run out of this very important er...basic commodity...he, he, he...
• United States
6 Nov 07
Yes..it is a basic commodity.. But believe it or not..you forget about it.. I know when a certain person comes over for awhile they must go through a roll theirselves, no kidding..so sometimes it can happen you run out by surprise;)

This doesn't just happen at home! Restaurant bathroom stalls are notorious for this. Kleenex is good. Paper towels another. Napkins too! And then get yourself to the store buy some Charmin! lol

Believe it or not ..I am not a Charming girl..I usually by the store brand or "angel soft" which is about a dollar for 4 rolls..after all you throw it away ..why pay so much money for something you will use but once and it's gone.. Like flushing money down the drain;)

I have taken old stained up cotton t-shirts and cut them into 4" squares, these work great for wipes - so much softer than paper and a square can do the entire job! also more absorbant than paper... we ditched these squares, however if you wanted to you could wash them out. you could keep a bucket of bleach water in the bathroom to toss the squares into until you are ready to wash a load. the last time I was in Mexico I went to an establishment and used their facilities - it is common curtesy to not flush papers down the commode in Mexico as the system is too fragile to handle it. Well, apparently this place is concerned there might be offensive smells from the bin so they had the idea to use perfumed toilet paper. bad idea! bad idea that I did not pull a tissue out of my purse instead! turns out I am alergic to the perfumed paper and on sensitive tissue to boot! also, the floral scent made the other smells really sickly.

I always keep a box of kleenex in the bathroom. I have had to use that a few times. I almost always have diaper wipes in the bathroom too so we usually have something to use.
