All of the recalls aren't the only problem

But they don't have the authority to order a mandatory recall of unsafe products! They can urge the company involved to do it to avoid bad publicity! And the Consumer Product Safety Commission and head Nancy Nord, which oversees the safety of consumer products, has been criticized recently for all of recalls of the toys made in China. She has been criticized for not acting more quickly. BUT! They don't have the authority to order mandatory recalls either! They can only urge the company involved...sound familiar? What is the deal? Why are we as a country always trying to get something done "after the fact" and blaming the one in charge when they have no power to do the job required?
