As a person who doesn't believe in Gods and thinks all religions are wrong and ultimately a thousand years from now people will laugh that we (as a collective race) thought there was a God who made the universe as much as we now laugh at the Greek and their chariot driven sun. Most religions have violence surrounding them even if it isn't written into the religion. The problem isn't what religion it is - the problem is that there is religion. Islam has its fair share of violence at the moment but I don't blame Islam as such. I blame those who commit those acts.

I have read the Qur'an and the parts that have not been abrogated clearly call for the deaths of Jews and Christians ("The people of the Book"). Jihad and hatred is at the very heart of the religion of Islam. It is at the heart of many other religions in the world, as well. However, there is a difference when it comes to Christianity. I'm not talking about the Pope or Patriarch or the Crusades or any of that. That is religion. I'm talking rather about true biblical followers of Jesus Christ. A true disciple of Jesus Christ is called to love others, to forgive, to be peacemakers, and to be light in this dark world. Have you ever considered that 1,000 years from now people will laugh (or be shocked and saddened) at the ignorance of supposedly "intelligent" people who weren't anywhere near as smart as we thought we were--not even smart enough to figure out that there always has been and always will be the only wise GOD and Creator of this universe whose Name is YHVH--the "I AM"? I don't like religions either. I believe most religions are the invention of men or even Satan. However, I absolutely do believe in "the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob," and I believe that by offering His One and Only Son, Jesus Christ, as the sacrificial Lamb for my sins, dying, and rising from the grave on the third day--that by trusting in Him, I am now God's child (John 1:12). Because of what Jesus Christ did I am free forever from condemnation (Romans 1:1-2); I'm free from any charge brought against me (Romans 8:31-34); I cannot be separated from the love of God the Father in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:35-39); I am allowed to approach God the Father with freedom and confidence through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 3:12); and I have been forgiven (Colossians 1:14). There are many other incredible privileges that each person who has placed their trust in Jesus Christ has. I belong to God (Ephesians 1:5). Do you know whose you are?

Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. Jesus speaking, Matthew 10. I wonder if the Arabs are quoting this right now in another messageboard, making your same argument except to condemn Christianity...

How can you say that a religion is wrong? A religion is nothing more than a set of a person's feelings and beliefs. It is when we take those beliefs as facts, or deny that they have even the slightest hint of importance that we begin to create problems. Hatred and violence can be construed as a part of every religion, it is when we fail to think beyond stereotypes and what a religion actually means that we create problems. I don't believe that ideas of religion will ever be laughed at.
