What was the original name given to the first microwave?

Some of you who are a bit younger than I am might possibly think microwaves have been around for a long time. Actually that's not true. I hardly use our microwave (it was a gift--had to take it--with gratitude, of course). I do most of my cooking on the stove or in the oven. My husband is the grill guy. You may wonder why I mention this. It's pertinent, sort of.
Can you tell me what the original name for a microwave was?

I think I heard somebody say it was an X-ray, or radiation oven, something like that! I think they were doing somekind of experiment with X-rays when they discovered it!

That's pretty close. Makes you wonder if people would have them in just about every household if they had named it something like that.
