Power Bill is due, looking for suggestions.

I am asking all you guys how to make some quick money without doing bad things. Well, my firend said I should get on here and talk sweet and lie to guys on yahoo chat and get them to send me money. I am not like that. I am honest, so I will let you know that my power bill is due next wednesday. I was working at a grocery store and I had to be out for a day ( that I was not scheduled for, they had called me that morning and asked me to come in, so I was going to) now my back is real bad, but I can't tell my work that because then no one will hire me. So I was moving the living room around and my back started to lock on me. It normally gives me pain everyday, but this one was bad. So, I called my work and I told them I was going to the E.R. So, I waited a few hours and then went to the e.r. .... they wrote me a doctor's note to stay out the next day. I called work and let them know. Well, the next day I went in and gave them the note. Well, the e.r. note stated that I was there from 5:30 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. When I originally called out for work I was supossed to go in at 4:00 p.m. So with the e.r. not there was 1 hour and 30 minutes un accounted for. By the way that it rediculous. It took me 30 minutes to drive there. Well, anyway.....So they fired me. I think that I can law suit them for this. In the meantime. I went job hunting for the past week. No one is hiring or anything. I have put an application in so many places. My husband found him a job though. He starts this Thursday. He will not get paid for 2 weeks though because they hold back for a week. my powerbill is due Wednesday. I am going to sell at the flea market this saturday and sunday. I normally make about $20 each day that i go. But I need to make 153 to keep my power on..... Do any of you guys know a way that I can make money fast???? Or you know how girl scouts take and raise money out side of wal mart? Would it be wrong of me to go and try to raise powerbill money at wal mart???

Oh my gosh, I am so willing to learn as long as it does not require a credit card or a bank account.... Because I do not have either of those......lol

First, you can't stand outside a Wal-mart trying to raise money...it's loitering and soliciting without permits and you could be arrested for it, I'm sure you don't have bail money either. Girl Scouts are an organization and they get permission in advance to set up their booths.
Having said that, the first thing I can think of is for you to go through your house and sell every single thing you don't absolutely need. Then see if your neighbors need any services that you can provide...cleaning, babysitting, running errands, yard work. If you still haven't raised enough money...take some of the money and buy some candles.
Next month and however long until you get back on your feet limit bills to only the basics (if you haven't already) Basics are rent, power, heat, basic phone, groceries water and sewer, and gas for work...not cable, voice mail, lunch or dinner out...

Thanks for the post, it made me feel a little better. I am gonna check craigslist like the person posted above. Never heard of it before. See, my rent can wait, it is actually cool with the landlor. He will let me run a tab at his store across the street. So he will hold on the rent and all. I pay weekly, so I talked to him today and told him I would be behind a week or two and he said that was fine. He also has gas pumps, so he gave me a little gas for the week. Cable, it was already in our trailer when we moved here, so that is a plus. Internet, I got a free 30 day trial, and I am in college online, so I had to get a phone line which was also due this week, so my dad paid it. Cause I have dial-up, and I have to have land phone for that. Dinner out?????? What is that. Lol. We stopped doing that a while back. Wasn't worth it. Groceries and all are provided by the state, thank the lord above. My card for the groceries just came in the mail a few days ago. So, i am just gonna try really hard to sell the rest of my flea market things and hope it all works out. Like I said above, this normally does not happen to us. Just everything came all at once... We should be fine in 2 weeks.

LOL...boy do I know how everything comes at once! We've had our share of bad luck and hard times too. Hope things do get better for you...and good for you for doing college online!

I'm sorry that this is happening to you right now. I know what it's like to have things pile up all at once, believe me, I do. Some suggestions I have would be to try and sell some stuff on Craigslist. Also, check out the gigs section on Craigslist. There's always people looking for someone to clean their house or mow their lawn, etc. Also, you could take some stuff to a pawn shop. If your husband is going to be paid soon, then you'll be able to get your stuff back. Also, is there any way that you can put the bill on a credit card? I hope this has helped and that you feel better. Let me know if you need more suggestions or want to talk further.

I have things to sell online, but I do not have a bank account. And e-bay and paypal require a bank account to verify that you are real. So, I have to hold off on selling those items till i can get a bank account. You can put it on a credit card...but i dont have one of those either.... This normally does not happen to me. But like you said, it all piled up at once. See, the job I had paid me 6.00 an hour so I could not save much while I worked there with gas being 3.00 a gallon..... lol.... what I did had saved I used it the week right before I got fired to put the girls in day care. Thank for the info, I am going to look at the craigslist to see if there is anyone needing help with any work or anything.... Thank you so much....

You cannot go to Walmart, you could be arrested. Have you check one of the churches or United Way some of those place offer assistance with untility bills. Good luck to you.

I have checked with churches and things but all of the require the bill to be in your name.....My power is in my dad's name, and he is in Florida at the time so he can not drive 9 hours to show them some i.d. I am just gonna keep trying to find a way.... Thanks for the response

Call the power company and tell them your situation. Ask if you can have an extension on your bill and pay as much as you can right now, if nothing tell them that. They will hopefully work with you as cold weather is here!

You should borrow money temporarily, in parrallel, you should also continuing your try to find jobs. The most important thing is you must keep all the accounting information regarding how much money you have in hand, how much you have to need and how much you have to borrow if it is needed. your husband is in work now, so one day he will get money. The so you can borrow now.

“talk sweet and lie to guys on yahoo chat” that’s nice hehe… Well thank goodness I don’t have to be the one to pay my own bills but I still do look for money on my own too. Being here in mylot is one thing. If you’re aiming to use the internet well there’s lots of ways just roam around. If you like writing then start blogging, if you like making friends while earning – join yuwie. These are just few of them… Good luck
