Why do some children like calling others by nickname?

Hi!All I don't like calling others by their nickname. When I was a student, I didn't like being called by others by nickname. So When somebody called me by nickname, I would get angry and quarrel with him. But it turned out to be that somebody still call me by nickname. Maybe nicknames could bring happiness to others. What do you think?

the nickname usually sound good and funny so most people preper there nickname for than their real name.

Here in Australia if you are given a nickname you can be pretty sure you are accepted, its a very Aussie thing to give someone a nickname or shorten a persons name or if it is a short name then lengthen it or finish a name like John with Johno, it is considered a term of endearment.
