Is the price $9.99 USD too much for a 300+ page e-book?

My husband is a 34-year-old male quadriplegic who has been working very hard over the past several months writing his lifetime story in the format of an e-book with hopes of being able to sell enough copies over the Internet in order to raise enough funds for him to be able to travel to China and receive the much-needed stem cell treatments he needs in order to have a chance at a better life than what he is going through right now on a daily basis. He does not know that I come here to write in this community with all of you, but I love this place because of the people in the amount of information that flows through here is incredible. Now the question that I would like to ask you is whether or not $9.99 USD is something that people would pay for something like this that my husband has put together all on his own? His original plan was to sell at least 1000 copies of this via the Internet which would be enough funds for him to combined with what he has already raised up till this point in order for him to be able to make his trip to China a reality rather than just hope right now. I would appreciate any feedback that you might have for me and maybe I will be able to convince him that there is still hope for him going to China in the near future. Please drop me a personal message on any ideas that you might have on what would be a good reasonable price so that I could make some suggestions to my husband and see what happens from that point on. I thank you for your precious time and look forward to receiving an answer to my question.

Nope, not at all. I've seen some legit e-books around this length or with very good topics going for the same price. As long as he markets it and the book is a good story I'm sure it'll be worth the 10 dollars. And I'm sure he'll be successful.

Thank you very much for your input. It is important to him right now to make things happen and in order for that to happen, he must work hard and not give up or get discouraged if things start to go south figuratively speaking.

I want to read the book, as a disabled person, I feel that my need role models and people to aspire to be like. The price seems fair if he decide to continue with the project which this fellow disabled writer hopes he will, he should publish through Lulu.com, a website which allows any writer to publish his or her book or books for free. They even allow you to have people order print copies (or you can order them yourself to sell at events). If your husband goes that route, I'm happy to help him by selling his printed version at my booth when I go to shows.

Thanks for responding to this discussion. He is following through on the project and has completed his first book. he is just finishing the final touches on it with the editing phase which has been a massive undertaking but it is well worth it to him to have it done right. Thanks also for the website because it looks great for future expansion of selling his book world wide. He is excited about the whole idea himself. I will keep you informed of what he does.

I think that this is a great price for an e-book like this and the great news is that if it doesn't sell at first, you could always drop the price a little bit. I don't think that you would want to drop the price on something like this though. Have you thought about doing fund raisers to get the money? There are a lot of sites that will allow you to set up a fund raiser for people to donate money or you could set up a blog that has his details and what he has been going through with trying to raise the money and you could add a paypal donation button and where to get the e book and be sure to mention that the proceeds from the book are going to get this treatment so that he may have a better life.

I am no expert to this , but i think that if the book has the content then i can pay any amount to it...even it it is 100 pages ..you need to go by the quality does it give or teaches anything to the readers? Would the enjoy reading 300 pages? if yes then the book is worth more than 10$ That's all i had to say.. please rate the discussion.

The book is the first of his "Trilogy" and it is being brought out onto the Internet in e-book format to raise funds so he can go to China and receive stem cell treatments during the summer of 2008. Below are the three titles of his "Trilogy". 1. A QUAD'S LIFE - IN THE BEGINNING 2. A QUAD'S LIFE - A NEW BEGINNING 3. A QUAD'S LIFE - BACK FROM CHINA My husband has a gift and he will no doubt in my eyes, end up with a best seller. He just needs to stay focused and let the words pour out of him. Thank you for responding.
