My dad's family was close to nonexistent while growing up.We had a real good relationship with mom's family. Is this the same in your family? It there a theory about a female keeps her kids closer to her side of the family?Or are there many reasons in society why this happens.

Hi, My dad's and mom's family both are more close as I had spend my vacations alternatively with both families. My fathers brother and mothers brothers they all are close. My father were four brothers members and my mothers family were of nine. I usually spend my school vacations with their children who are my cousins. Hence I hope I just confused to calculate to which side I am too close.

In my case, I am closer to my mothers side of the family. My aunts and my uncle on my dads side I don't keep in contact with anymore. I dont even know if they are still alive. They are all in their 80's now if the are. I don't even know my cousins on that side. It's a shame really. Don't know if there is a theory about it. I would be interested to see if anyone here responds that they are closer to the dads side. That would debunk the theory about females keeping their kids closer.

I'm closer to my father's family. My mother is the youngest in their family that's why when she married and had us most of her sibling already have families of their own. While my father is the eldest and his younger siblings didn't marry so they helped in taking care of us.

I have always been much closer to my mother's family. Partly because they are the more loving side of the family and partly because we live alot closer to them then to the family on my father's side. I have cousins my age on my mother's side that live close to me so we really grew up together.
