Do you drive to close?

When you are driving, do you leave enough space between you and the vehicle in front of you? Rule of thumb says you need to be 2 seconds behind the car you are following. Do you stay back or are you one of the many people who I shared the road with yesterday?- Mike

No, I don't stay too close to the vehicle in front of me.. I keep a safe distance from it.. But while in a jam, I prefer keeping it close, coz the side ones always try to get into ur lane if ur lane is mving and not theirs...

That is so true. I was on a major highway near Pittsburgh and there was a pretty big accident about a mile ahead. All three lanes were going about out 1/2 a mile per hour. People started driving up the right side of the road. Yes on the part where you pull over when you get caught speeding LOL. I was amazed at the number of people who thought they are better than everyone else and didn't have to stop. It was funny when traffic started moving again and we all got to see them sitting in a line on the side of the road with a cop going from car to car handing out tickets for driving on the side of the road. - Mike

My way of driving is simple. I keep enough distance from the vehicle in front of me that if its braked hard i should be able to stop my vehicle from crashing in to it. I dont know this theory of two seconds but when i am in city where the congestion is heavy i am pretty close to the next vehicle as we all are moving at a snails pace.

The two second rule is something that my wife said is a rule. I don't know if it is true or not but it does put enough space between you and the car in front of you. :) I try to use it as much as I can. - Mike

No, I normally keep some distance from the vehicle in front of me...it's better to be on the defensive rather than offensive side to prevent accidents. Road courtesy for me should not be compromised so as to save lives as well as your own...but of course, there are drivers who are impatient, rude, and are far from being polite...often, this is the cause of accidents....

I am the same way. I would rather get somewhere safely. In my job I drive about 600 miles in a week. I see a lot of bad drivers out there. I have been tailgated in a construction area where we only had one lane to drive on with posted limits of 40 MPH. I was already driving 55 and the guy behind me was slow close that even though it was dark, I could almost not see his headlights in my review mirror. Some people...
