How do you handle the stress when life gives you a lot to deal with?

As some of you may know from my previous discussions, life has dumped a lot on our plates lately. The next few discussions I start will be about the latest issues we're facing on top of everything else that has already happened. The stress levels are getting pretty high. What do you all do to handle stress? Are you a "go with the flow" type personality that can handle just about anything life throws at you? Are you someone who reaches their breaking point quickly? Or are you somewhere in between? I'd love to hear all different ideas on how to handle stress and worry.

I get in my kayak and go fishing where the big boats can't get to. There's just something about being alone with the water and nature all around me that always calms me. I know not everyone has that chance so, I never take it for granted.

Just hearing that sounds very peaceful! It's good to know you don't take those moments for granted, so many other people would.

Oh you just have to try it sometime. Something about a kayak and how close you are to the water. I usually find an island too. I have my lunch there and think of how great it is to have my own little island to myself. It's like my own little piece of heaven on earth.

You know what? ! got a little taste of that kind of peace once and came home and said I wanted one! It was a canoe in a stream for maybe 10 minutes tops but I felt it. It was amazing...but life got in the way so I haven't gotten one yet, something to look into for next summer!

Hi Foxy.. People tend to make advices to others, about yielding to temptations, controlling them .. but when it comes to them , they act only on to the instinct..only very rarely people, on those occassions,( when they are circumvented by problems or else provoked by some one) tend to think of other people advices and try to act according to them. So going by the words of Foxyfire... I may just as you ( !!! ) a "Go with the flow" personality. Take care friend.:)

Thanks saivenkaat! I think "go with the flow" personalities are the calmest (although it doesn't hurt to have a back up plan just in case). It is really hard to remember advice when the moment is right there and has to be acted on immediately.

That's another good way to handle stress in my opinion. You can just kind of get lost in the computer so your mind doesnt have to deal with anything else for a while.

Hi foxyfire I do agree life can sometimes be tough. But when life gets tough the tough get going. For me I dont show my stress I keep it all inside. I think I can handle stress very good. There have been those times when Ive come to the breaking point but I never gave into it.LOL Ive come to realize that everything always works out. Either good or bad. The key is excepting it. When Im stressed I always keep myself busy. I also like to do things that I enjoy doing. We should always try and make ourselves happy. We can only rely on ourselves for this. So what ever your problems are I hope they all work out for you.

Thanks TerryZ! "We can only rely on ourselves for this.: That is so true, we can't depend on someone else just fixing everything for us. Keeping ourselves happy really can help get us through anything that life throws at us.

I am a bit of in-between. Depending on what the stresses are about, I try to deal with them as I go along as best I can. Sometimes I need to get myself away from what is causing me to stress out and have some "me time" and other times I prefer to sit down with my husband and talk it all out. I know they don't always go away instantly but either taking time out from it or talking about it with my husband, seems to lighten the load a bit for me. Even coming onto mylot and letting it out on here seems to help too and I have picked up a few suggestions and ideas on how to go about getting over the stress as well.

I really like "me time" also. If nothing else, just for a few minutes to think things through before I react in any way. Mylot is also great for just letting it all out. I don't know where'd I'd go if I didn't have people here to let me vent.

I think it depends on the situation and if my meds are working...lol! I'm manic depressive and never know how I'm going to react to stress at any given time. There are times I've done very well and have used the things that work for me such as breathing techniques or visualizations and other times I forget everything I've learned and just lose it completely!

I'm pretty good about handling stress up to a certain point. When things hit that point, I sleep alot...and I mean ALOT. It's my body and mind's way of shutting down and, I guess, recharging. I just deal with things as they come until I hit my breaking point then I sleep :) "COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS" **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

That's exactly how my s/o is too, he just shuts down when it all gets to be too much. After today he'll be off work until Monday night and I'm willing to bet he'll spend most of the weekend either asleep or sitting here at the computer pretending the world away.

I used to worry and throw "pity parties" when I felt very stressed, but since I started following the L♥rd, I pray, but because I physically tense up, dancing/walking/swimming,any physical activity to help loosen me up..

Although a "pity party" sound more fun sometimes, I agree that the Lord should be gone to first and then anything that comes after that is just a bonus.
