Diwali is celebrated with such pomp and splendour in India. In South India, people from all walks of life look forward to this day and shops come out with innovative designs in garments, sweet shops array themselves with a mind boggling variety of sweets in rainbow colours , theatres gear up to screen new films, t.v.channels vie with one another in telecasting novel programs and it is a day of grand celebration. Walk down a street in a small town where houses are lined up in a row, and you are wafted on a 'sweet' smelling breeze because assortment of sweets made in different houses virtually drill your nose. Here it is associated with the vanquishing of the demon Narakasura, and signifies triumph of good over evil. That is why crackers and fireworks are burnt dispelling darkness from the world. In North India I have heard that Goddess Laksmi is invoked this day and Lakshmi Puja is performed. What is the way of celebration in your place? What is the significance of ''Muhurat?" I drew a nice Rangoli and filled it up with colours today. It looks very nice and I kept looking at it and feeling pleased with myself for my little work of art. Do share all the little enjoyable things you are up to this day.
