Coltrane was a tenor player in the start, made his way to alto to record the better music of his career, and was eventually given a soprano sax by Miles Davis, in which he went on to record songs like "My Favorite Things", transforming the world of jazz and free-jazz forever. What instrument sounds best in Coltrane's mouth? I personally think the alto provided a longer, more accessible scale for him to play, and he excersised this regularly. What do you think?
