How many keep their grandchildren for week long visits?

My gandbaby lives in another state, so I don't get to see her very often. When I get the chance I'll drive down to GA and pick her up and bring her home for a week with me. How many others get the opportunity to do this with their grandkids?

I'm only a Mum for the moment but i can just tell that if given the chance, my Mum would have my daughter there permanently if given the chance! At the moment my Mum gets fornightly visits (she's about an hour & a half from here) & we go on the Tuesday & come home Wednesday afternoon but it never seems to be enough for her. As it is, my Mum's choosing to work Xmas night & wanting us to stay the night but doesn't seem to understand we wont be staying as my partner will be working the day after Xmas! I'm not sure how old my daughter will be when she's allowed to stay down there alone but i don't think it will be for a while, i just don't see it as being necessary for the moment.

My daughter moved to GA when my grandbaby was 9 months old. I have been foruntate, which I believe my daughter is fortunate too. (beause it gives her a break) that I get my gandbaby as often as I do. I am not able to work, so I am home during the day and able to give her all the attention she needs when she comes to visit with me. I am just really concerned about next year, when she is in regular school. That will put a damper on our visits.

I'd give anything if i could have my grand kids on a regular basis - every week of the year would be my preference!

I know, mine lives 6.5 hours away. I'll meet her mom half way about every couple of months and I'll keep her for a week or sometimes 2 weeks. But I am concerned about next year, she will be starting REAL SCHOOL..Right now she is in a pre kindergarden and it doesn't matter if she misses, but next year that is going to change. I don't know how well I will be able to handle that. They are just going to have to move closer.
