If you are actually "working" online, set a fixed number of hours that you will work, just like a business. And I'd suggest not exceeding 6 hours a day. If you're just enjoying the net, i.e. surfing, playing online games, instant messaging, etc., I would break it up throughout the day. Say maybe 2 hours at a time, then get out and be with your friends. Then maybe at the end of your day, spend another hour or two online, then call it a night. The net is very addicting and often hard to leave. But your friends are FAR more important than anything you'll do online. Make them a priority in your life. The net will always be there, no matter how much you make it wait. The people you put on hold however, will wait only so long before the move on due to you putting them on hold.

I always answer my friends first, then come to mylot. My friends know that I like to come here, so they usually email me only 3-4 times a day. I take frequent breaks because I can't sit for long, and when I come back I first check to see if a friend has written. I will answer them, then come back here. I also have myspace and several music forums. I check those later at night. The thing is, I have DSL so I can be on all day... I know a lot of people can't do that, and it makes a difference.
