In Marketplace, Publishers now have the option of selecting Ghost Writing.

I saw ghost writing at Marketplace. Thinking this would be a collaberation between writer and publisher. I clicked on ghost writing and what a shock. I had to page down to see what it meant at the community board page I was liked to. Means the editor can change your writing as much as s/he wants and you may or may not get a byline. It's under Jolly something in Marketplace for a lifecasting article proposal. So what are your thoughts on this? For people who don't know helium, it is a place where you can write articles and each time someone clicks on the article, you get a little bit of money ( around a penny). BUT on the Market Place area, magazines, newletters, etc. ask for articles and pay regular real money for an article if you are chosen by that publication.

For myself, I wouldn't really care. I don't write for the recognition much any more. I can see where it might upset some, though.

If I worked really hard on an article, I would like credit. If they changed it materially to something I didn't say, then I wouldn't want to have my name associated with it. Both of those are at their option and it doesn't sound like the writer has any say in it. Maybe I'm reading it wrong. But both of those possibilities bother me. I suppose after I was paid, I shouldn't care, but I would. recognition, depends, If what I wrote could lead to a carreer or not. In my case, not likely. Take care

"If they changed it materially to something I didn't say, then I wouldn't want to have my name associated with it." Yes, you're right. I was just thinking of getting recognition for it. I wouldn't want my name associated with something that didn't reflect my personal morals or beliefs.

You may be right. I haven't looked at it recently.

Wow I never knew a ghost who could write! :) *Couldn't resist that one* I do not like the idea of Ghost Writing. Is that not when someone who cannot write a lick, asks you to write for them and pretend that they wrote the article itself? Or they write part of the story, but in reality you are doing most of the work?

Good one! Probably closest to your second definition. I think the usual ghostwriting situation is they write a sketchy story and you help to fill everything in. But their definition is a little different. If you follow the steps I wrote in response to blueunicorn above, you'll see what they wrote. Take care

The way they wrote it, I think it's the opposite way around for this, you write something and they do all kinds of stuff with it. So you get no credit, unless they want to give you some, you write the original story, and they change it or add to it as they want. Take care

Thank you for starting this topic, first of all! I was trying to figure out what Ghost Writing was, and I just couldn't find what I was looking for. I think my brain was just somewhere else. I'm glad I didn't participate in those articles like I was going to. I think every writer should get the proper recognition for their work. It is not easy writing an article that is good enough to be published. I don't want somebody I don't know picking and choosing the parts of my writing they like and dumping the rest. I especially don't like the idea that they could change it so much that the words are taken out of context.

I haven't tried this "Helium.com" yet. I hear it's really good. I can't really help with the conversation/discussion. I'm really bored right now. In my PayPal account I only have $0.77 so I really need the money. I shall try helium.com to see if I like it. Thanks anyways. Enjoy your stay at mylot! Goodbye!
