IRAN meets RUSSIA

The Russian president not too long ago met the Iranian president. The meeting seemed quite a logical thing to do, what with both parties having a long term adversarial relationship with the USA. Things did not work out as the Russians expected.
If you are interested in the situation in the middle east, the war on terror and all of that, you really want to click this link. Read for yourself the Russian impression of the top Iranian leaders.

I find it interesting how Putin views the top Iranian leadership. While the Russians did not use the phrase, "Dangerously delusional", I think it is an accurate paraphrase.
How would you describe, in your own words, the Russian impressions of the Iranians? Based on knowledge you already possess, how accurate is this Russian description of the Iranians?

I would say that the Russians got a much needed education about Iran's attitude of being a regional superpower.
Talk about your classic delusions of grandeur, Iran's leadership has it in spades.
I think Putin was more than a little shocked to learn that Iran thought Russia needed them, instead of Iran needing Russia.
It does seem that Iran may just have gotten it's nuclear program put on hold due to "technical problems".
Given my understanding of the situation in Iran, I would say that the Russians assessment was correct.
My question to the Russians would be "What took you so long to realize this?"

I suppose the Iranian attitude is partially the fault of the USA. Afterall, Iran has had the USA, the foremost military power in the world, dancing like a trained monkey on a stick, with Iran holding the stick. It is no wonder they think they run the middle east.
It will be interesting to see if the Russians substantially change their policies concerning Iran.

Perhaps a few of our congressional leaders should make the same visit Mr. Putin did. Maybe it would be an "educational" experience for them as well, (or not). It seems to me that Putin was trying to tell the world he was wrong about them with out saying he was wrong about them, saving a little face, as well as a lot of wasted investment money down the road for russian industry. The next security councel meeting should be most interesting, particularly the russian position. Hopefully, there is now one more leader in the world, who final gets it.

Yes that did seem warped. Quite warped. I'd call them delusional or sickly delusional. And it did seem like Iran thought everything was going in their favor and even acted as such. (I liked mention of conversion talks, that really says something...) It also seems like several stories are going on at the same time, but its not just the usual game. Its multiple angles and stances taken along with information being leaked and withheld. So even though there might be a stance of "delusional leaders" and some cooperation, something very big could be going on.

I agree that this leaked out is very important. I hope it is the Russians way of telling the USA, "We now understand what you have been talking about!". Is this what it means? You never know with the Russians.
