Ok, last SATURDAY, I fixed some salmon patties and some potato cakes. Something I love to eat. So the trash was close to being full and I threw the can away thinking it will be taken out by tomorrow and went about my day. So Sunday I slept a little late, cos I was myLotting til the wee hours, friends called and we went to eat, then I came home and crashed out again. When I woke up, about 6pm, I went to the kitchen to get a drink. The smell hit me as soon as I turned to walk into the kitchen. Immediate sour face. Dam.n......the trash. So I gather it up and take it out. The bag wasnt broken or torn and there was no liquid in there so I just put in a new bag thinking the smell would go away, it was just lingering a bit. OK people, its FRIDAY!!!! And I still smell this Jack Mackral that I used! LOL I have gotten down on my hands and knees looking along the baseboards under the counter tops, thinking I may have dropped some or something. I got the flashlight and checked between the fridge and the counter, the stove top and the counter and I dont see a thing! Last night we had company....of all things! When the house is smelling good or sparkling clean, no one wants to come over. I was really embarassed, I hate that. I want my house to smell good all the time, even for me when I walk in the door. SO....does anyone have any suggestion on how to get this smell from my house??? Ive Febreezed it, I scrubbed the trash can last night, Ive burnt candles and turned up the Glade Plug ins......what else can I do???? HELP!! Have you had a smell in your house that you couldnt, for the life of you, get rid of? :( Bay Lay Gray xx

Oh BayleighGray , it sounds like really problem. I can imagine how you did feel yesterday when you had a friends over in your house.Hope, they had a cold and cannot smell it :) My mum was always using lemon juice or vinegar just 1:1 with water to take a smell from fridge or other things. I have never try it by myself, but give it a shot.Maybe it realy work. I don't remeber I ever had a smell in my house like that but I remeber my hubby taking trash in his car and we were eating crab legs and shrimp that ay, he forget to put it to the conatiner in base, but next day the gros smell remind him, what to do. LOL

I know thats right Ambie!! Eeeeew! I can only imagine some crab legs and shrimp hot and sour out of a car. LOL That might stick with me and I couldnt eat it for awhile. I love both of them equally. I have some vinegar! If when I wake in the morning, and its still there, Im going to rewash the trash can with it and maybe do the wall near where it sits. I dont see anything, but maybe some juice splashed or something?? Hmm hope so! Bay xx

I have been there. I figured that some birds flew down our chimney and got stuck, and also our house is about forty years old, there is a possibility that this has been there for sometime. However, the furnace took care of that. Now since the cat haters in the neighborhood have gotten around to getting rid of most of the cats, except for the ones kept inside, we have the problem with mice and if a mouse gets trapped, it sets up a stink. I have not had anything happen recently, but years ago I did have a problem, but like you, I have no idea what really caused it and how it disappeared.

Well, I probably am going to be of no help, and maybe someone had already suggested these things (I'm answering straight from my e-mail), but I would and have done some of the following: dumped an entire bottle of Pinesol in my trash can and let it set for 6 hours, boiled a cinammon stick on the stove, or make chocolate chip cookies. The last suggestion may be best when company comes over because it will probably only mask the smell for so long. But the other two have worked for me when I had a bad case of fish smell.

Hi Ambie, actually no, no one said any of that. lol Thanks! I have vinegar and someone suggested that, so if in the morning its not lessened from the baking soda, Im going to try that. Hubby says he cant smell anything, that Im just over reacting. He says my nose works too good! lol Bay xx

Well what do you suspect old Grandma do? Hold it in? I imagine she would end up like the exploding man on Monty Python that ate too much, and then what would you do with bits of Grandma all over your house? I think you would miss her farting. Bay xx

I've had similar situations where I never ended up finding the over-looked culprit of the smell. Once we had something die in the walls of our house... the smell lingered for days. And of course that's when my new crush came over to my house for the first time! Another time I had been using some patchouli oil my brother had given me in my water vac, to vacuum up a bunch of dog hair off the throw rug by my bed. Well, I got distracted and neglected to empty the water cannister when I finished. Days later I started getting whiffs of the most incredible stench I have ever sniffed. The faint smell of rancid patchouli was the clue that lead me to my vacuum. When I opened it up to empty it I thought I was going to puke. I gagged the whole way out to the back yard and for a while afterwards. The smell would not go away, and everytime I vacuumed it was like the plastic cannister had permanently absorbed the smell. It would shoot out into the room. I tried bleaching it, adding perfume to the water, everything, but the stench prevailed. And of course on a day that I had just vacuumed and the smell was intense, the lady whose store I sell my dolls in, came to my house to campaign for county treasurer, and I couldn't not invite her in! Did she come on a day when I had just filled the house with fresh bouquets of wildflowers and was sitting at a sparkling kitchen table sipping a cup of herbal tea, my kitties frolicking in the corner? Of course not! Those are the days that I spend alone!

Gosh, 6 days, that's excessive...it's now 10, has it gone? My recent smell seems to have gone but with the heat there's always something to cause a bit of an odour.

Hi Tickle, Yes it was 8 days before it left! lol I dont smell it now. I really think the baking soda did the trick. I set it out in some small bowls around the kitchen. I even dumped some in the bottom of the trash can. Thank goodness its gone! Yeah heat was not a factor here. lol Its been cool! And I dont have the heat on. It sure did linger! I even opened some windows and nearly froze! lol Bay xx
