Do You Have A Basement?

We are exploring your house discussions shall now continue, lol. We have come to see if anyone has a basement. Of course, I am of the opinion that it would not make sense to have a basement in California. I mean to say, one big shocker of an earthquake and I'm thinkin' the basement is the first to implode. Nonetheless, it seems some people have them--perhaps a wine cellar. Do you have a basement? What is it used for?

Yes, I would love that extra space. I hear it's stays pretty cool for the summer down there. That might be a good reason to have one here in the desert.

Yes, we have a basement, however, we live in the northeast. The main use is several, our coal burner unit is down there, as well as the washer and dryer and another bathroom. and plenty of storage room. We also have a walk-up attic.

Sounds like a wonderful home, my friend. Is the basement cold or have you made it a cozy place to do laundry in? Love to hear about your attic too.

I have given the basement a few 'homey' touches. The attic is a walk up attic, has a staircase to it from the middle upstairs bedroom. If we end up buying this house I would love to make it into my scrapbooking room. It's big enough, has two small windows on each side, and wood floors. We would have to look into getting heat run into it, electric is already run there. It is a nice older house, the only draw back is the coal heating, lol, a whole new learning experience for me since I moved here from Texas lol

Sweet! Your very own laundry room. The dryer will keep it warm down there . . . well, at least when it's on. So where will you put all those other things that are packed to the ceiling. Oh my, have fun cleaning.

I have what is considered a half basement. The people who owned the home before me had it dug out and cemented. They did not dig down far enough so no one can stand up in my basement. The basement also gets water in it so I had a sump pump put in and it helps. I also use the basement for storage. I use rubbermaid hampers to make sure nothing gets wet and I also have put pallets down as well to stack the hampers on. My basement really is not good for much of anything. I also keep an extra freezer down there to store food in. I like to buy in bulk to save money. This way I just go down in the basement and get my meat and cook it when ever I want to, not a lot of shopping to prepare dinner in my home.

Well, at least there's room for the extra freezer. I guess you have to be careful about not getting that wet either. Thank God for rubbermaid!

I have a large finished basement. There's an extra bedroom, a full bathroom, a laundry room, a library and a large family room/rec room area. It is great having all the extra living space and on hot days it's nice and cool in the basement.

Hah. I don't have a basement. I could never have a basement. I live in a trailer in the swamp. If I dig down one foot, I hit water :-). I think that if I could afford it, I would have a safe room built because we have hurricanes here.

We have a basement, but only because we built a new house and were told that it would have better resale value with a basement. When we lived in Tennessee we didn't have a basement, and we never missed it. Actually, I hate basements. The one we had for 20 years flooded a few times, and that was really nasty. Right now we're using our basement for a lot of storage and a home for my kitties which my husband won't allow upstairs. It's probably the best basement we've ever had because of the two large windows in one end that let in a lot of light.

I do not have a basement and am kind of glad that I do not have one because of heavy rains which can cause flooding in the basement which can damage the home. My parents have had to have a lot of work done with their basement because of rain and ants. I do not have use for one with my townhouse but may consider it if I were to get a bigger home. I would probably use a basement for storage or to use it as an extra room.

We don't have a basement, unfortunately. Makes it difficult since we don't have anywhere for storage except a few shelves in the garage. The primary reason I'd like a basement is because of the weather. We are in the midwest and have a considerable amount of storms and tornadoes. A basement is an ideal place to run for shelter since it's underground.

Yep I do now. I recently moved to a house. We had a trailer before. It has a basement. We use it for laundry and storage. I also put my dogs down there when we leave the house. Theres nothing they can get into and I dont have to worry about them tearing up the house. They are both still puppies and chew on things. I give them a blanket, toys and some food when we leave them down there. I live in Pa now and everyone seems to have a basement. But when I lived in Arizona we didnt have one. I didnt know about basements untill we moved here. LOL.

Nope, our apartment sits on a concrete pad. I don't really care for basements simply b/c they creep me out LOL "COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS" **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Having a basement is not common in the Philippines. But I want to have one when I have my own house someday.

Yup, I have a basement. It's not really used for anything, because it's in awful condition. The wall could gave in, because its bulging out..and there's a bunch a dirt where you can crawl under the foundations of the house. They never finished the basement lol. We put cans we're gonna recycle down there, but that's pretty much it.

No, I do not have a basement. If there happened to be an earthquake the last place I'd want to be is in a basement here in California! :P I think I've only seen one basement in a house here and that was when I was a little girl.

Yes, I have a basement, but it is not under the ground. It is on the ground floor or the first floor used for storing our unwanted and recyclable stuff as well as placing our bikes. It is not big, but nine square meters in size.

Gtargirl, I don't have a basement because I live in an area where flood frequents my area.

I live in the north west and we have a basement. the basement is only 4 feet underground. It was mainly undeveloped when we moved in but we have built it up a bit. First they redid my room so that it is a suitable bedroom. Next they build a small insulated music room for my brother to play music in. For the rest of the basement we use it for storage. We also have a work bench down there and the washer and dryer.
