Thinking about writing a book

I have had a long time dream to write a book. My biggest passion is music and writing music, but my writing skills carry over to many other styles and types. Recently, I have found my self debating whether I should make extra time to write while I spend the rest of the time offering freelance writing. The problems are that I feel it takes time and dedication to really write a good book. I cannot afford that at this point. Also, I hear it is hard to go through the whole publishing thing and getting and agent and all that mess. I think I could be successful with www.lulu.com. It would mean that I would have to do all the work, but I would also get a good amount for the royalties. Has anybody used Lulu.com to make a book? How did you like it? Is it true that not enough people read books to make it worth it to write them?

I always anmired people could write books, it must be a real buzz to have a bookshelf of books that you yourself has written and to have worldwide distribution of your books would be wonderful. After my special friend passed away I found writing about the long road of getting to be with as he was in the entertainment business, I showed someone my writings one day and she said you know your story would make a wonderful tear jerking movie, I then got a computer and had the urge to do a tribute webpage to my friend but not clever in the webpage building area someone else suggested how I could do a simple page in word, so I sat down and I poured my heart out as it helped me get over losing him, I guess it was good therapy and in the end I have a wonderful tribute to the person who was my lifelong dream come true and I guess someone else must have thought it was ok the The National Library contacted me requesting permission to archive my page for all time... I couldn't have asked for any better thing to happen for my special friend, even after I am long gone my page will still be there...

Well, its really great that you want to write a book and by the way, I would like to tell you that it aint true that people don't read books and the whole thing is a waste of time, people do read good books and if you wish to proceed further, you could give it a shot, maybe not dedicating 24x7 to it but you could atleast devote sometime to your passion... i mean if you kickstart it once, i am sure you will continue it... and hey anyways practice makes one perfect... try making your first book a small yet a good one so that people come to know that you are capable of expressing things briefly... take the example of the Harry Potter series... i mean, the 1st part was a small one and as readers got interested, the volume of the book increased... i hope you got my point, as per the lulu.com thing, try searching the web for a review... all da best for the book and if you complete it, lemme know... i would surely love to read it ... :~)

If it is your passion, then go for it. There is more satisfaction in seeing a complete book that you have spent time and passion into it. It would be rewarding also as you are spending productive time doing something you love. Go for it and good luck.
