Electrical Assistance Needed, Please! What do I buy?

We're going to visit the UK in Dec. I have a Dell Inspiron notebook that I want to bring with and I'll need to plug it in. I also have a camera and a video camera that I'll be needing to plug in as well. I did read an article about how to determine if you need a converter or a travel adapter plug. According to the article, all I need is an adapter, but I don't really trust that article after reading comments from people at Amazon.com how they used an adapter and fried it. How do I find out for sure what I need and where do I buy it? Thank you!
