The teenager is supposed to drive only with a licensed adult in the car with them. Apparently he and a teenage friend got permission to drive to the local kmart. They took the car for a joyride, were speeding, and had a wreck. No one was injured, but Mom faces charges of child endangerment. You just can't ignore the law and let your kid drive by himself no matter how much they beg! Look what has happened to this mom! She may have to go to trial! What a mess!

Hi estherlou! i do think that the mother should not have allowed or given permission for her son o drive alone. He can only drive under the supervision of a licensed adult. Because of her irresponsible action, now she is in trouble. I guess, we should always know the limitations in giving in to our children. Good thing that no one got hurt. Just my thoughts. take care and have a nice day.

All I can say is that this was a very irresponsible act on her part. I can't believe she let her child drive a car without an adult being present. You are right, she can't ignore the law and let this child drive alone. He obviously wasn't responsible enough to handle this on his own. that is why the law is there! I hope that they have learned a lesson from this and yes, she will probably face charges for child endangerment, because she allowed him to do this.

The Mother gave permission knowing that is was absolutley wrong. There for, I believe that mother is responsible for anything that has happened and if it means goign to trial, then so be it. We as parents are responsible for our children until they are of age and even tho there are things that we can not stop our kids from doing...this situation was controlable and should not have happened.

Are they sure the Mom gave permission? If so she should be taking the blame for it...but i also know that a rebellous 15 year old teenager will do things on their own that they are not suppose to do..I would never give a 15 year old child permission to do such a thing...

I hope they charge the boy as well. Pretty stupid for his mom to let him take the car w/o her or another adult. He shouldn't get his license now till he is 18 yrs old, at least.

Well, she is responsible for the child and maybe shouldn't have trusted him. What if they just got pulled over, there would still be trouble. I don't think she should have let the kids have the car, period.

I think the mom should not have given the teen permission to drive the car; and I agree that she knew that he shouldnt drive without an adult..she is the one at fault here..the teen too.but mom knows better.

It was very irresponsible of the mom to allow her son to drive with another teenager like that. The parent and child need to follow the laws. She is not a very good mother by allowing him to drive without her or another adult present. Hopefully the teenager will learn his lesson from what he did and not drive without an adult present, if he is allowed to drive again. He should be required to go through driving classes again and now allowed to drive again til he is 21.

If they are going to enforce the new laws, they are going to have to enforce them. It will probably take a while before people get the picture and abide by the rules.

Mom sounds like she is a few french fries short of a happy meal.
Personally, 15 or 16 is way too young for the average child to be driving alone, I don't care what the law says.
My son got his license when he was 17 1/2. He was not ready for the responsibility before that. He has never had an accident or a ticket. Maturity has it's benefits.
This kids mom should learn about it.

I hope this woman has learned a valuable lesson. That is why we don't let children drive...its just too tempting for them to disobey and joyride. I pray that all turns out well for this family. It happened in our town and the young man wound up upside down in a creek and had hypothermia when found. He survived and a few years later was allowed to get his license. Now he is in college and doing great! I hope in this case this young man learns a valuable lesson too. Its a miracle that no one was seriously injured!
