My little one is only 1 year old, but we've started a little 'school' session on an (almost) daily basis. So needless to say we are probably going to keep home schooling him until at least JR high. Does anyone with experience have any suggestions or websites to recommend for such a little guy? we want to give him as much of a head start as we can. Thanks for your help.

What type of 'school' sessions do you do with your son? My son is 1yr old also and I'd like to help him learn as much as I can.

I read books to him, sing nursery rhymes, play music and try to describe what i'm doing while i'm doing it. For example, I compare his clean socks to his dirty socks while i'm changing him. I base what I do from www.letteroftheweek.com It's a website that has toddler curriculum's. I use it, but I'd like to see what else is out there. Hope you find the site helpful.

I think for children that young and right up through about age 6 the very most important thing is to keep learning fun. Children are naturally curious, they want to learn new things & master new skills. When it becomes a chore, they can feel unneeded pressure. What you are doing already reading, singing, showing him how things work is exactly what you should be doing.

I homeschool all 3 of my boys. I started them at a very young age. And all three were different. You have to find what holds that childs attention. One of my boys loved flashcards. For a young age you want big, colorful, hardboard flashcards. I taught him colors fist, then shapes, ABC's, 123's and then sound blends. My other two boys loved things they could hold and play with. So I got toys that were solid colors to teach them colors. My mom sewed me colorful pillows in the shapes of their letters and numbers (God bless her)! And once they learned all the names of these things then we started learning letter blends (phonics) and counting then adding & subtracting. Read to them every chance you get and for heavens sake don't let them watch a lot of TV. When they were old enough to really pay attention I started them on the Abeka books. It's a very regimented homeschooling program but it gives you step by step instructions of how to teach them. Which I really needed.
