Comfort Pillow: do you have one?

Comfort pillow - my sister's comfort pillow that she named "baby" looks like this although it a little worn out now...

Since i was a kid, i have this certain pillow that i couldn't sleep without. I don't know i just have a hard time sleeping without my pillow. My mom used to sneak it out when i was in my teens, since it was rather getting old and worn out, but later returned it when she noticed i was often awake a couple of night... There were even night when I just couldn't get some sound sleep when my pillow was newly washed. I don't have any idea why. Maybe it was my pillow's smell or something.. I have a 7 yr old sister who has her own comfort pillow too since she as a year old. she calls it her "baby". the same thing, she finds it uneasy getting herself to sleep without her "baby" in her side. She would dip her nose into it and thumbsucks her way to sleep.... How about you do you also have a comfort pillow? Do you know of any psychological interpretations about people with comfort pillow? Thanks.

I don't think men my age are allowed to have comfort pillows! Anyway i will say no way, nope, not me, never, but i do sleep with two pillows. One thin pillow for my head and a fluffy one for back support, i do have to hug the fluffy one, bad back you know! Take care Bong.

Hi bong_domingo, First and foremost I should thanks a lot to mylot staffs for giving me one good lesson where my first response to your discussion has been deleted due to my mistake for my photo uploading activity. So this is my second entry. Talking about comfort pillow or in my place called as 'favorite pillow', I am one of them who still perform this uncommon habitual practice. And hard to fall into sleep if I loss my comfort pillow. My thought this kind of uncommon habitual ended for me only, unfortunately it turned down to my youngest daughter (5 years old). She needed it not only for one, but always for three. If one of it found absent, she demonstrated her out loud cries. But what made me puzzled, how does she know and with perfect determination that particular pillow, even though I have changed the pillow cover-sheet?. Thats all from me, bong_domingo. Anyway I appreciate your second times reading my second response. Thank you very much, bong domingo. Happy Daddy.

I do have my comfort pillow till now... I dunno.. maybe you are right without it, I could not sleep well or should I say sleep could hardly find its way in me. I had this pillow of mine (rectangular in shape and about 1.5 meters in length and 3/4 meter in width) since I was a child. It has something to do with the smell I think. I hug my pillow every night when I sleep and it feels nice... its the opposite when its being washed and stayed for a couple of days in "sampayan." I almost did everything to that pillow: having it as something to be hugged, something where your head is being laid on, and sometimes, without my knowing it, I sometimes find out that my pillow is on my feet when I wake up! Hahahahaha. Hmmm... I wonder why the smell never changes (I might have been immune to it)... But one thing is for sure: No one in the family dare touch my pillow...I think they are afraid of it... Naaah... They are afraid of something I love to smell and hug every night! Yay! Hehehehe :D.

me i won't trade it for any pillow not unless that pillow has a similar smell :-)

Hehehehe... So do I then! The smell I think bonded me with my pillow... and our bond has placed a spell to it that no one dares to even touch it (or more so, smell it!!!). :D or is it a similar symbiotic bond between the alien costume and peter parker? Hehehehehe... I miss my pillow now... Tomorrow, I'll try bringing that pillow to the office... (I am sure people will be placed under spell not to even touch nor smell it! Hahahaha)

As for me i use pillows with no other intentions. Because i can also sleep without pillows. i am used to this because i am a scout since i was a grader up to my high school and now that i am already a scoutmaster, i still do the same. I use pillow if there is some but if there is none i don't look for them. It's maybe because i apply what i preach with my boy scouts to learn how to survive and be contented with what is available. So, in short, i can sleep with or without pillows. Thanks

Yes, i have a comfort pillow when i was a child. I like holding the pointed at the side of the pillow. Even the pillow was worn out/damaged, my father is the one who fixed it. But that was got lost i dont remember how. Until now i still have to touch the pointed of the pillow even that is not mine. As long as it has pointed at the side and it achieves my satisfaction hehe. Even im watching tv, or talking to some one i really want hold a pillow. My husband get mad at me, he always told me i am no longer a baby, i am too old and it is very shameful to some who can see me doing that. I am searching in the internet but nothing had come out what is really the psychological interpretations regarding our habit. Maybe if i have ample time i will search. heheheh....

I had a little baby pillow with an ordinary pillowcase on it. When I went to sleep I would suck the pillow case. Every so often my Mum would wash the cover for me. I think I had it until I was about 12 I think it became more of a habbit than a need. We had to throw it away when we were on holidays as I became car sick and my poor pillow ended up covered in vomit. My niece who is 10 still has what we call a summie. From when she was little anything she found made of satin such as boxer shorts etc would end up in her little hands. She would then rub the material up against her face. My sister nicknamed this guesture summiing. She still does it and quite often does it without thinking, which is so cute.

I don't have one now. But I used to have a special pillow that I could not sleep without. It was a feather pillow and very mushy. It finally wore out. I don't know about any psycholgial interpretation, just what my mom always said. She would tell me that I needed to grow up. I still sleep better with a feather pillow. So what if I still need to grow up. LOL

yeah my mom used to tell that too ... to grow up, i just simply reply that it's part of me growing up... a had a male friend once slept at our house, he noticed how i cuddle my pillow unmindful. He told me that my pillow is luckier because i keep on hugging it so tight, i simply told that i would do the same to him if he gets to smell like my pillow... hahaha

I didn't use my equivalent of this after I turned 5. My brother was much the same. I do however really enjoy egyptian cotton sheets for much the same reason I suppose. They are so soft and make me feel comfort.

I've heard a lot about people not being to sleep with this and that. got no comfort pillows though, but I know of someone who can't sleep without her "mosquito net". So wherever she goes, she brings with her a piece of this "mosquito net" and places it between her feet. hehehe I think that's the same with comfort pillows. me? I sleep if I am sleepy. Although I feel more comfortable sleeping with a blanket, I can still sleep without one. Comfort Pillows and the like have some explanations in CHild Psychology. However, i forgot the terms here =) things like comfort pillow gives the child a sense of security.

Hi,there! I also like pillows pretty much. I have a comfortable one and I do think it's very important to have a nice one cause it affects your sleep very much. If I don't a good sleep at night, the next day will be so horrible for me and it's hard for me to be active and do things efficiently.I have a pillow which is not too beautiful but it's simple, clean and not high.I don't like those high ones.I prefer the low(but not too low) and soft ones.I also like the smell of my pillow. It helps me fall into sleep faster:) Are there any psychological interpretations about people with comfortable pillow? Really?

hello bong, I was like that when I was a child, I always carrying my pillow arround, when I sleep at hotel, I also must bring my pillow with me, otherwise I will not sleep at all, but with my age, that habbits will fade, right now I'm allready don't have that kind of habbits, I can sleep with anykind of pillow, eventually when I'm get very tired, without a pillow I still can sleep.

I love having lots of pillows on my bed. I can't sleep without them. I have slept in other places without them, but it bothers me not having my two or three pillows fluffed up around me.

i experienced that one too... and it bothers me as i go to sleep. there were times when i go out of town for some conferences and i stay in a hotel, i often have a hard time sleeping, so i watch movies till my eyes get tired.... or sometimes i just tire myself so that i could easily go to sleep.. but if i get a pillow that almost has a similar smell as mine then i can easily get sleep.... thanks for dropping by mamasan...

I also have a pillow. Its old and ugly, and it couldn't even stand up to a washing but its sooo soft and I love it. I also have a stuffed dog that I will occasionlly snuggle up with when I am sick or on the sofa. Last year when I went into the hospital for a bad kidney infection my boyfriend brought the stuffed dog to me. I was so tickled that he thought of that for me. It made the hospital a tad better. lol

I too have the same in so far as pillow is concerned. I think there is something in our mind that makes it comfortable and without it, we find it hard to sleep. But when I reached high school, I seem to have grown up on this and I no longer need such pillow.

I do not have one but I have this attitude of not sleeping without my blanket. I really cannot sleep without the presence of any blanket. I do not know why.lol
