Last night when I was relaxing at the sofa with my wife, watching some TV, I got a knock at the door. There was a couple with a very cute daughter greeting me when I opened the door. They are members of the Anchorvale Community Center. There is going to be a soft launch on the 24 Nov at the new premises. They were selling tickets to the mini carnival there and I bought two for the fun of it. Anyone of you guys going there on the 24 Nov?

nope... not the wrong place. Look at the interest where this thread is started. I have some kakis here who are also staying where I am. They should be able to better relate. Heh heh... I will try to bring my camera along that weekend and see if I can get some good pictures to post here for all to see. ;)

Yea. I've got a friend who lives in Anchorvale. That's such a ulu place. I think there's only one bus service there right? Anyway, I think they are trying to liven up the place by setting up a community center there. That's very good for you. I think you should go there with your wife and hang out with your fellow neighbors. =D

Hi poohgal, actually Anchorvale is not that ulu. I don't own a car and I find getting to and from my home pretty convenient. From the time I step out of my home till I reach town, it is just a 45 min ride on the train. Directly in front of my home, the bus stop brings me to many eating places. 5 stops to the Rivervale market. 2 stops to the Fernvale eating place. And if I am adventurous enough, the bus will also bring me to the famous prata place at Pierce Reservoir. On the same bus, travel a little further, we could go to Thomson Plaza. And a little further down is the stretch of eateries along Thomson road. If I Take the bus all the way, I can also go down to Toa Payoh. 10 minutes walk to Compass Point. And the interchange will connect me to a variety to places. There is a free shuttle to Marine Parade, Parkway Parade shopping center too. I cannot remember if the shuttle to Tampines Ikea is still there or not, there is also a bus that will bring us there as well. And some times, there is also a free shuttle to the Ikea at Alexandra as well. There is even a direct bus to Changi, where you can go to the park to cycle, eat the seafood at the Changi Village itself! Within walking distance, there are lots of schools, from nurseries all the way to Secondary Schools. Even for drivers, it is pretty accessible. 5 minutes to most of the major expressways, from PIE to CTE to SLE to TPE. So, it is not that ulu as you think it is. Pretty accessible to many parts of Singapore if you ask me.

You are not the only one who got lost the first time they were here poohgal. I got lost the second time when I got here after getting my keys. Was trying to find my way here from Compasspoint, and itchy backside like me, had to walk instead of taking the LRT to save the 63 cents (then). Ended up walking all over the place before I finally found my block. Cussing and swearing all the way. I was really glad when we finally found our unit. Then there was that friend who went on a LRT tour of Seng Kang cos she took the wrong train when she was trying to make it to our house warming. Till today, it is the butt of our jokes whenever it is brought up.

LOL. Well, I am saying in relative to Hougang mah. Hougang is less ulu to me. =p I remember my first time trying to get to my friend's place in Anchorvale - I got lost. LOL All the flats there look the same to me. But I think it's my problem la. I've been lost in many places before ie. TPY, Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang, Seng Kang, AMK and etc.
