You have to speak with a native Japanese speaker or practice speaking with someone who is fluent in the language. Way back high school, I had practiced almost day by day with my teacher in Japanese. He taught me the correct pronunciation and the correct way of writing the Japanese characters. I did listen to Japanese programs in cable TV and watched anime with English subtitles with them. I did meet with a Japanese before and he told me that I was fluent and that I wrote the Japanese characters way too better than how he writes it. Kinda flattering really. I did buy a lot of books in Japanese that I may self-study at home. I will not consider myself expert with the language but I could talk with a Japanese with the common daily words that they use. Keep practicing, summer. Perfect practice makes perfect. You need to work hard to learn the language, and you have to feel their history as I did.. I did study their history and their culture. :D Nuff said for now!

I studied Japanese during high school and until now... Self study really helps with the basic knowledge and audio tales I had during high school. Our teacher may not be Japanese, but he speaks fluently in that language... I recommend you go to http://www.survivalphrases.com there are many basic things to be learned there. The audio files are free, including the manual, also located in that site. Have fun! Ganbatte kudasai!
