Callas v Tebaldi

Why was it that in tgheir prime you had to be either a callas fan or a Tebaldi fan. Maria could act but had voice problems. renata was the possessor of one of the creamiest most bautiful voices in the world but was never going to set the stage alight with her dramatic ability. it's just two sides of opera. It's always been there. Does the music come first or the words. I'd love to hear what other opera lovers think about this. Also my favourite Callas recording is the first Norma. My favourite Tebaldi is La Boheme with Bergonzi. Tullio Serafin conducted both. if they were good enough for Serafin - theiy're good enough for me...
