well every time I have to throw food away it makes me sick. Do you throw away food? how often? last week we went shoping and as we got out of the car I got most of the shoping out and told husband to get the rest. 2 days later I went to get some butter and could not find it ( a whole 500gr tub). I looked everywhere I could not find it. I checked for some other things they were not there. Jep you guessed it right husbend did not get 3 bags. in them we had vegetables and fruit (by this time nicely cooked in the booth of the car), ice cream, meat, butter, milk, eggs and god only knows what else all that worth some $150. And not only that but I often make more than we can eat, or forget things in the fridge. And than I feel guilty because there are people starving and here I am throwing food away.

It is shocking to hear that the average person in my country throws away £400 of food a year. I heard this on television. I imagine it is mostly fresh produce that goes off like fruit and vegetables. In a fridge these items stay fresh for a few days but without a fridge things they go bad. I do feel guilty when I forget things in the fridge and throw them in my dustbin. I wish there were not starving people in the world. I used to eat microwave rice in the convenient packets that took two minutes in my microwave. Large bags of rice would feed a whole village in need of food. Good luck to the hungry people of the world. I will try stop throwing food away. Waste not want not is a saying I was taught when I was a child. I am such a fussy eater though.

wow as much as that so each person works about 1 week for nothing. Yes when you see how much those convinient packs are you could probably feed a vilage 1 meal with that money.

Yes, one whole village could be have rice for the price I used to pay for the cook it quickly sort of rice. When busy teaching I aim to make my meal in less than five or ten minutes. I often wish all the food I waste could be sent to somewhere it would be appreciated. I love to travel and prefer self catering to full or half board. It is about hating to waste food.

Do you know how much hotels and restourants waste food it gives me a heart attack thinking about it. I once asked this restourant owner (friend of a friend) why they dont give it to the holmless he told me its health and safety gee I would think that it is safer than most things they get out of a bin.

I feel bad but I don't think we waste too much. I do throw away a bit but my partner always moans at me and calls me wasteful! he can talk. When it comes to cooking something for tea i'll have something planned and ready but he'll tell me "I don't fancy it" so I ask "well what do you want?" and he'll just tell me that he doesn't quite know. I'm a vegetarian so I don't have meat in the fridge which goes off a bit quicker than the meat substitutes I use but i'm terrible with fruit and veg that's my big waste. I'm funny with fruit, i love it but I don't like bananas when they're too ripe, they have to have just turned from green but they can just suddenly go brown, I hate it when they're bruised brown. Our bin is always full so we must be wasting something though. I'm an over-cooker too, meaning I cook more than we need it then sits in the fridge for a bit and is thrown away when we realise we forgot to eat it. I find it hard to do portions just for two when everything is family sized.

well my husband and son eat lots of fruit. The problem with thet is they overeat it and they cant eat the meal I am preparing. Or they get things like pears, peaches and apricot that go off very soon.

My partner can be so fussy, He sometimes doesn't eat much for dinner but I reckon he eats quite a bit at work. Plus he'll leave half of his dinner then asks for dessert! Bread is also another thing that seems to go off quickly in our home. I don't eat bread that much, well I try and avoid it but if it goes hard i just break it up and put it out for the birds (soaked in water of course).

I hate throwing away food too. I think of the money we are wasting and I think of the people that have nothing much to eat and here we are throwing away food. My husband left a bag of groceries in the car not too long ago. I went to make something and I said hey where is my butter and where is my sour cream. Then I started missing some other things too so I went out to the car and saw a bag that hubby had left in there. I was so mad and I said here you are wasting money so now I have to go back to the store and buy this stuff again so I can make my recipe. I know he left it in the car on accident but it still made me mad about having to go back to the store and spend that money again when I wouldn't have had to if he would have checked to make sure he had gotten everything out.

ok so he is not the only one (I wont tell him that then he will have an excuse) this is not the first time he has done it. Once one of the bags was riped and he left the butter (the once in foil not in plastic tub) and as I got few I didnt notice about a week later he went to get soemthing from the car and notice the whole butter melted all over.

I also hate throw away the food. But when we have party with many friends who are our university's classmate, the foods left much more usually. We had to throw them in the end which made us felt guilty. However,we were quite full, and the host didn't cook in the next few days.If we cooked a little food,we were afraid those wasn't enough........

Herein india especially southindia everywhere youcn see the thrownout fooditems carelessly. We can keep unwanted food if notperished and give it to those who want their need in bus terminals and publicplaces other wise we can feed to uncared dogs by keepin g the foods under propercare. If food perished we can throw or keep under earth to fertilise it. Throwing anything as such irresponsibly must be restrictd if you use to see kindly advice them to keep and serve to the needy . Those throwers must be booked for irresponsibility and miscreants towards publiclife.

Oh that would have just made me sick to lose all that food, and i am sure it was upsetting to you., it would have upset me i know...There is just the two of us, hubby and i ,so yes i do have left overs quite often, we do eat the leftovers sometimes but sometimes we don,t so i have to throw it out...The best part for me though is living in the country like we do we have lots of animals around, like raccoons and stuff, so i throw the older food we do not eat out to them and it is there for just awhile and then its gone.I throw out all the left over brad and anything we do not eat.I can usually throw it out and within the hour is is eaten up by the raccoons.I feel like since the animals do eat the left overs i feel like it is not wasted at all because it goes to feed the hungry little animals that comes from the woods..I have them spoiled too, because if i fail to throw out something in a day, they will come on the porch at night and try to eat the cat food.Haha..

i think people should feel bad when they throw their food away. simply for the reason that almost half of the world is hungry. this is a sad reality. lucky are those who have more food on their table, they dont need to feel hunger unless theyre in a diet. but more and more people are not into slimming.. but are so thin right now... because of hunger.

Hi,there! I understand your feelings.Well,I seldom throw food away but it happens sometimes cause it's really hard to get so proper quantity of food. Usually when I go shopping,I have a list in my mind about all the food that I need to buy and how many I need. So when I'm in the supermarket,I just take the things that I want but not too many cause we can go there later if that's not enough. When I eat things I also often think of those who are starving, which makes me not waste food. Well, maybe in the future you can make plans before buying food:) Hopefully you can take it easy and don't feel bad about it any more.Have a nice day!

I dont often get too much food but it does happen. see the other day my friend who workes at a bakery droped in to see me and gave me lots of bread I put some in the freezer (as much as I could fit in) and I was going to give the rest to my sister but they couldn come to get it and then I took my son and went and fed the birds in the park.

Wow I think thats great that your first thought is that you feel bad because people are starving. I would just be angry mostly for the waste of money. I know what you mean though. We often have to throw out produce because it goes bad. I feel bad because I know there are people starving everywhere. ALso the amount of polution that goes in to creating or cultivating that

yeah. we throw food away too. but as much as possible, we try not to because everytime we throw away food, the street children and the poor people i see everyday come into my mind. i don't know why but whenever i go shopping for food, i always tend to get things that aren't on my list of groceries. i get so frustrated because i feel bad about throwing food away.

They have actually done studies which show that our guilt for lesser nations is one of the causes of our nation being overweight. We eat everything put in front of us even after we are full because our parents instilled in us that smiple fact that there are those less fortunate out there. If we all just buy a little less and contribute to some more charitable organizations, we can all be a little healthier and play a role in the health of the global community

I feel the same way about throwing food away. Especially with the cost of groceries today. I actually got so fed up with it that I have started making a concerted effort to stop wasting. I make smaller portions or freeze leftovers immediately. I check the fridge for things I should use soon, then plan meals accordingly. I shop with a specific menu in mind. I still throw stuff away, but not nearly as much. I am still improving.

i seldom throw away food as my parents teach me since i am young that i am not allowed to do that... not only it is wasting food, but it is also not appreciating the blessing that God had given to me... so i always try my best not to throw away any food as much as i can... i only buy sufficiently and whatever i cook, i always finish them... it annoys me a lot when i go to a restaurant and i see people only eat a bite of their food and left most of it on the table and then walk away... not only that they are wasting food... they are also wasting their money... why buy the food if they are not going to eat it??? i don't understand...

I guess we are all guilty of that. But it does still bother me to have to throw food away as well. To help with this I have started making tv dinners out of the left overs. i take these to a neighbor who is senior and she enjoys them, as she says it isn't worth cooking for one. That helps some.

Hi i hardly throw food out.Ive learned to ration the size of the meal out because of how much each of us eat.If there is left overs my boyfriend tells me to put some for his dinner the next day for in the woods. The only thing i throw out is rotten vegetables that ive forgot about but i put them by the trees where the birds can get them or "the(1)"crow which is always here kind of like a watch crow for other animals, hahaha!Yes i have a watch crow and not my dog, hehe.I,ike you think of all the needy people who could of had a meal from some of the food that people throw away. I cant get rid of the birds let alone feed them to make them come more. I am sick of clening after them and it took 6 months for new grass seeds to grow because birds eat the seeds.

I really hate throewing food away. If I can save it as long as I want then i will but if i know i cant save it that long i rather give it to my pets and let them eat the leftovers. Because thinking wwe work hard for the money to buy food then we just throw them so easily. I hate it.
