Are top sports people paid too much and losing touch with the average fan? Or is it just a free market and are top teams only paying the going rate for top stars? I would Love to know what fellow members think.

Well, I'm not an expert and it's only my opinion but here in the US I think our players are paid way too much. But I also know that a lot of them not only give financially to charities but also of their time. I guess those athletes deserve their wages. Unfortunately, I believe that most of them are so out of touch with their fans. My daughter tried to get an autograph from a St. Louise baseball player once and he just ignored her as he walked right by. It was a place, however, where other players were signing autographs. This particular athelete told her (through his assistant) that she would have to pay for it. Mmmmmm. Plus I can't tell you how many times I've heard an athlete say "it's not about the money" and then leave the team for a higher paid contract. Furthermore, I think once they get their lucrative deals it's got to be so much pressure to live up to it. Why aren't teachers paid that much (just for an example)?. Sorry, I didn't mean to get so lengthy, I guess I had more to say on the subject than I realized. Have a wonderful week.
