I got something for ya. I have a laptop, 1.6GHz Core Duo, with 512mB RAM. 80GB HDD (2 partions, each half full) but it seems a bit slow for me. Any software you recommend to make it faster? =)

I actually do have some recommendations for you. So, first the basics: You may want to consider lowering graphics settings/effects for improved visual performance. I would uninstall any programs you don't need, use disk cleanup, and maybe a defrag. Oh, and if your laptop is constantly plugged in and not using up the battery, you may want to consider changing the power settings so that you get more cpu power out of it. Here are just a few of the programs I've used on my pc and others with no problem., and they are all free: AusLogics Disk Defrag

you could use dfrg.msc to clear some disk debris. It is well known that the computer would be acting slowly when PC is used for a long time. The reason for it is that some disk deris are left when you unload programmes and delete files frequently. The large amount of disk debris would hold memory space, you should try to run dfrg.msc to release the ocuppied memory space

the best challenge to me appears like taking the task of going through the course of dealing with the existing system and not the knee-jerk switch to another system so abruptly :) while open source based OS have the biggest advantages, it must always be a productive factor to tinker with the problematic ones to increase our knowledge in PC troubleshooting :) Peace! Oh yeah, I like Mac too.. soon i might just buy one.
