MySpace Middle East Hook Up...Katherine Lester

Today on the Dr. Phil Show they featured a girl named Katherine Lester who tried to leave the US to go to the Middle East to meet a man she met on Myspace at the age of 16. After she turned 18 she did make the trip to see him and has been there ever since. The family is concerned that she's being held against her will and will never come home among other worries.

I don't condone what she did, and I'm not bashing the guy either....yet...but willing to fly over to a country in war may be a little reckless especially when the guy has been very rude and verbally abusive to herself and her family.
Whats anyone else's thoughts on this issue and situation?

This is another one of those stories that makes me want to scream! How can these girls be so stupid after all they hear in the media today?

well parents to have to educate their children a lot more. On the show, they have a tape of him saying he's well off. If he's so well off why didn't HE make the effort to come to the US (his father did to buy her a ticket to go up there when she was 16) instead of her going there. I don't know about the culture differance but it seems better since he's older then her.
I would also love to hear from those near or in Palestine area, which I think is where she lives now.

Okay so i read it all.. and wow what a situation..
knowing the culutre and all. he most likley isnt telling her you cannot go home.. she is just scared to do it because of hwat he "might"do to her...it really is a horrible situation,and it is not a place to be during this time of war. i cant imagine what her parents are going through day t day with thoes feelings that their daughter could be killed at any givin time..i think if she were killed that it would be by abdullahs people because our soldiers would not kill her unles shse was for the people and tryn to kill them so shes safe in that department.
but in that country this is how they treat there woman.. of course he is ganna put on a front he wanted her there if she really knew what it was like then she would have never went im sure..
but its possible that she really does love him
in a relationship you dont just think about all the bad times. im sure they have had good times as well and when she thinks back to thoes good times that is what keeps her going...it wont last to much longer im sure...dr/phil will get her out of there:) i love him:P

I never herd about this:( does she still wanna be there?.. I mean if she wants to be there then that is her chpice. did dr phiol talk to her?.. i cant watch the vid because i dont have sound ontop of having dil up.lol yes im old fashioned i know. i need an upfrade:(...but like i was saying i mean she is the leagal age now and if that is were she wants ot be that is her problem mabey the parents should have thaght her better or mabey not let her use the internet or the phone after they seen what was going on when she was 16....dr phil did talk to her right?
