My Favorite Winston Churchill Quotes

United States
November 14, 2007 9:23pm CST
I am not a fan of Winston Churchill... I never even knew who he was until today, but over the years I have repeatedly come across quotes attributed to him that I find very funny. These are some of my favorites: A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject. He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire. I am fond of pigs. Dogs look up to us, cats look down on us, but pigs treat us as equals. I may be drunk, miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly. I am just preparing my impromptu remarks. If you are going through hell, keep going. It has been said that Democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried. It is always wise to look ahead, but difficult to look further than you can see. Kites rise highest against the wind - not with it. Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. Play the game for more than you can afford to lose... only then will you learn the game. Success is going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm.

Hello my dear zigzag buddha. I didn't know that you like so many quotes from Winston Churchill, who was such a great man in the world history. Thanks for sharing your favorite quotes. Good day, dear friend.

Winston, truly thou art a miracle worker as Zippy testifies, "and they also make me think!" and no small miracle at that all the best urban

Ahhh, go zip your fly urb, your d!ck is showing. I know I give you a hard-0n and all, but it's really not good manners to flaunt it in front of such a gentleman as Sir William! Maybe it's time you developed a little maturity. Oh, and learn some manners too. HAHAHAHA! Bye now.

Hello back to you Sir William! How could you have known? I never told you! I don't know about what kind of man he was, I never paid much attention to history, but I find much value in his quotes. They make me laugh and they also make me think! Just like mansab so excellently pointed out. Thank you for stopping by my friend.

Thats uite a collection you got there. Some are funny as well. There are many quotes that we have never heard of but when we just do some research we find some pretty interesting ones and want to know where and who they were said by and what else theyve got. ive encountered issues like so as well!

Thank you! Yeah, I get a laugh out of them every time I read them, or as mensab pointed out, a good think out of them. I'm glad you enjoyed them.

this is a great collection. some made me laugh while some gave me a good thought. he must be good and witty. most leaders have incredible common sense and insight. we can always learn from them. even the bad leaders have something to tell us; they too have lessons for us. thank you. i enjoyed your post. i may be using some of them myself.

How perfectly stated, and of course I absolutely agree with every thing you said - even the bit about enjoying the post, as I thoroughly enjoyed it myself! I'm glad somebody else did as well!

being a great fan of cryptograms and cryptoquotes ive heard a few of those before.. among many other awesome quotes by people.. its rare i hear a new quote from famous people really since ive done so many of those puzzles.. its really in the thousands so ive heard just about every famous quote from every famous leader etc mark twain is another with a lot of great quotes (ya i know its not his real name but its the easiest way to find his quotes) anyways i did see a new quote in your list of quotes and i like it! im picky with my quotes haha the very first one you mention is the one i hadnt heard/read before though.. the fanatic.. some would say im a bit obsessive, some say passionate, some say insane, persistent, stubborn, etc etc so i really like that quote cuz i can relate haha i also hadnt heard the pig one before where they treat us as equals.. i love how we humans find truth to be humorous haha it is funny but true though.. i also always liked the quote about the kite flying highest against the wind not with it, though i didnt know it was churchill who said it! :D its kinda like the positive version of 'the nail that sticks out gets hammered down' which is kinda negative i think hehe its more like 'dont try that or youre gonna get hurt' as opposed to 'face your fears and fly high' kinda thing :) anywho i guess i should stop typing this is probably getting kinda long! :D

I LOVE cryptograms and cryptoquotes! I am a crossword puzzle fiend though and those usually are what I'm doing till 5AM... till I discovered MyLot. Although I'm pretty bored with MyLot right now. I do enjoy you and most of your 'discussions' though, but my friend 'urb' up above has been the only reason I have even been on mylot at all lately... responding to his trite attempts at insulting me has kept me mildly entertained while you have been gone. Hehehe. I see he's left another little turd, I mean tidbit up there for me. Well, back to you and your response though, I don't think it's so much that we find 'truth' to be humorous as it is a matter of it being necessary to find humor in the absurd, either that or drown in the absurdity. By the way, you never have to worry about typing too long a 'missive' for me! hehehehe, or haven't you noticed how long winded I can be? I like Mark Twain quotes too. I never hear one that it doesn't amaze me all over again that he was so profound.

Yeah, there's nuthin' better than a good laugh, well except maybe a good you know what... I miss those days when it was so easy to burst out into uncontainable laughter. In fact I'm going to spend even more time lightening my load so they come easy like that again. My current favorite is the one about playing the game for more than you can afford to lose. Thanks for stopping by! Too bad we couldn't partake of ritualistic exchanges like tea and stuff. Hehehe. Later...

I love how you said "Winston Churchill had some interesting points of view"! He sure did, didn't he? When I had heard his name in school (and I found school very boring after puberty hit), I always pictured him as a staid, staunch, boring old military man... boy was that some unjust imagery!! Of course I don't remember any of my teachers ever delivering up a list of any of his profound and/or profoundly funny quotes either!

No most likely not, alls I remember about that from school is the low cut shirts... I don`t think it would have went over well if us kids went home quoting that as what we learned at school today.

Winston Churchill suffered but instead of letting it overcome him, he stood up and sacrificed in his work for his country and the Lord.
