Alright you kitty lovers, I need help. My beloved Rainy has pancreatis. that means one medicine to coat he rtummy, one medicine to make her want to eat and one medicine to actually help her get well. So, I have to feed her five pills a day and hiding them in her food doesn't work since one of the side effects of pancreatis is that her tummy hurts and she doesn't want to eat...not in tuna, not in pudding, not in any of her favorites, Today i scruffed her and had the medicine on my finger then rubbed it on her tongue, but she managed to spit it back out and all over me. Help?

With my cats I have to put my palm on the back of their heads with my thumb in one side of their mouth to keep it open and my ring finger in the other side back where they dont have any teeth and put the pill back in their throat as far as I can and then while still holding onto them I take my thumb and rub it down the outside of their throat to help them swallow it befor they can spit it out

Rain spit it out four times, and that was while she felt awful...it's gonna be harder as she gets healthier/

Calais actually gave the response here as the correct way to give a pill, but from my past experience I've never had luck. It does seem easier whenever I've had to give medicines when it's been in liquid form. Do you have someone who can help you out? Like someone who could hold your kitty while you give the pill, that sometimes can be a bit easier. Now I just couldn't resist this. It's a humorous way of giving a cat a pill..Thought you'd get a chuckle out of it http://www.nanceestar.com/CatPill.html ps...I'm glad to see you back, as I noticed you were gone from here..hope everything is all right

Pe, That's ssoooo cute and true. She spit out the pill four times before we got it down her throat and I figure the better she feels, the worse it will get. She also laid open the vet tech's arm...silly tech, cats have claws. She managed to get better overngiht, so I know the antibiotics are working...I just have to get them in ehr four more time. Wish me luck! Sorry I haven't been around...I've been crazy busy. Missed you though :)

I'm glad to hear your kitty is starting to feel better. Don't ask what I have to go through with one of my cats, Pyewacket. I have to clean his one ear out every once in a while. It's a major battle with him. And then when I finish, he runs and hides from me and gives me nasty looks if I come near him!

Hold from over her head and tilt her head backwards so the mouth opens, try and put the pill as far back as possible..You might have to break it smaller...

With a lot of effort and someone else holding her this worked. Snf it esd s lot easier than getting her to even a teaspoon of food with the pill mixed in.

what i do for my cats are similar to what you have done. except that i drop the pill far down their throat. first, scruff them and tilt their head skyward. then pry open mouth with middle finger while pill held between index finger and thumb. drop the pill precisely at the back of the throat. close their mouth and rub their throad vigorously. take note that the moment the pill comes into contact with their tongue you have failed. hope it helps.
