I was getting sleepy everymorning about 10am. Couldn't figure it as I wasn't doing anything to get sleep about. But it'd hit me every day about 10am. Then one day I was watching the Food NEtwork Unwrapped series where they talk about foods, how they are made, the history and a bunch of other great and interesting stuff about our food (candy too!) This episode was talking to Ben and Jerry's creators and they mentioned that ice cream is a good "sleep agent" because it has milk in it which is always something everyone knows - warm milk helps you sleep. When asked why ice cream - that really cold stuff - make syou sleepy the guy says cause it is made with milk... and milk has calcium in it...and calcium makes you drozy so you get sleepy. Doesnt' matter if it is hot or cold. Calcium makes you sleepy. I thought htat was very interesting, but didn't think any more about it, until a few days later when I realized that I was taking my calcium supplement every morning .... and by 10 am I was sleepy! It was the calcium that was making me sleepy! I tested it and stopped taking it and the sleepy spells stopped! I tested it further and take a calcium tablet every night and with in about 1/2an hour of laying down... I doze off! Granted it is just a dozy - you either go to sleep or if you get up the "spell" is broken, but I swear it helps me get to sleep every night! Calcium supplementation is recommend by doctors, so why not make it work overtime for you! Works like a charm for me every night!

Several years ago we read a human interest story in the newspaper about a woman who was then 102 years old and when they asked her secret for longevity she replied "I never go to bed without a dish of ice cream!" Bravo, we said, and decided to incorporate that into our routine, as well. We don't do it every night--sometimes our bedtime snack is a gooey grilled cheese sandwich with a glass of milk (also full of calcium) and sometimes we poach an egg or two to go with a little bit of steak. But I never like to go to sleep on an empty stomach.

A gooey grilled cheese - sounds marvelous! I'll take one! I have to eat before bed - my ulcer demands it!

I don't even drink coffee! Its from the phrase "take a coffee break", now I would change that to Ice tea break but no one would get the comparison! I love the aroma of coffe in the mornings, but can't stand the taste! And my ulcer wouldn't allow it if I did! I was shocked not only that the calcium pills did this but that I found out about it on Food Network Unwrapped show! And waht a great excuse to eat ice cream!!!
