Life in the New Country

United States

I am new here in the US. I'm originally from the Philippines. It's been seven months since I arrived and still adjusting. I know there's a lot cultural differences that I have to deal with. But I like it here though. My concern is finding jobs and the issue of racial discrimination especially to Asian people. I hope there are some members here who are not originally from the US. I would be glad to know your insights or maybe some experiences that you have encountered as an immingrant in a new country.

Hi, where in the US are you staying? I'm also from the Philippines but I'm in California for a vacation. I've been here for two months only and I've seen a lot of Asians here. So you're an immigrant? Did you come here with your family or are you here on your own? I guess it's better if you're here with your family because at least there are people you can relate to.

Im here in Maryland. Yeah there are so many Filipinos in CA, they say when you're there you feel like you're just in the Philippines coz there's filipino everywhere. I moved here to settle down for good. Very hard at first but I guess I have to get used to my new life here. Hope you'll enjoy your stay there. Have fun girl!

Where in MD do you live. I'm originally from MD. There are tons of Pinoys in PG county near DC You'd feel at home if you lived there.

Actually, as much Filipinos as there are here in California, I still feel homesick. And actually, there are times when I feel discrimination by fellow Filipinos who have been here much longer. =( Although of course, there are those who are really nice and friendly and accommodating. I'm excited to go back home though because I miss my boyfriend and my sister and my friends. I wish you good luck in your endeavors there in Maryland, and I'm sure you'll be able to adjust well. Magaling yata ang mga Pinoy. ;) I've been hearing that Pinoys are well-liked by employers here. =)

Trust me as far as racial discrimination there are other groups that are a lot higher on the totem pole than Asians.

Hi I am also living in usa for about 5-6 months and I am from europe. I read that you live in Maryland? I live there too. You have to write me about yourself more. Hey I understand you so much abotu cultural different and discrimination, i knwo what you are talking about. It is so hard here for immigrants to start life here, work or go to the school. Do you have any friends here? I am glad I meet you here.

Im from Pinas too.. Ive been to some countries in Asia and I stay there for months and months. For me there is a culture shock at first but as the time goes by, you have to learn how to live their life in US. You must be tough specially interms of racial discriminations. Before i get here in OZ i face a good challenging memory that i will never forget that is discrimination against us. But if you are smart enough you act smart, do smart and live smart theres nothing for you to fret about. one bad apple reflects on the others , and dont think about the discriminations you know where you stand ,you know exactly what youre doing then face it,challenging at first but you will see yourself lining up in their busy world. You can do that girl! And never forget where you came from coz that makes you.. YOU! Have fun and learn their culture there. Be good and you will never go wrong..Trust me...SMile!
