When my daughter was 2 years old I was helping her learn one of my favorite nursery rhymes, Little Miss Muffet." I would say it then she would repeat what I said and she was doing very well...this is how it ended up... She says, "Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet eating her fright away cereal." We couldn't help but start laughing...We thought it was the cutest thing ever....... It actually goes like this..."Little Miss Muffet, sat on her tuffet eating her curds and whey, when along came a spider and sat down beside her and scared Little Miss Muffet away." What are your funny stories about teaching your kids Nursery Rhymes?

I'm sure I've taught my son that one (the real version, not your daughters, lol) but I don't remember any funny incidents with nursery rhymes. I did teach him a version of 'Sing a song of sixpence' though! I don't know if you are familiar with the song, but it has a few verses and finishes with 'when down came a blackbird and pecked off her nose!' Being silly one day while giving my son a bath, I kept changing the part that the blackbird pecked off, all to howls of laughter. Now, whenever my son sings it, he always changes it too! Hope he doesn't have to sing that one at school, lol!

How sweet..It is funny you mention the old lady in the shoe one..The other nite I was reading Phenix night times rhymes and I had Jack and Jill...I only know the first verse which is a good thing because as you read on, Jill gets whipped for laughing at Jack, and I was like holy cow...Who wrote these? There were some others that I was shocked by some of the wording used...

It is a very entertaining to see a child mimics or imitates the nursery rhymes. It shows how eager they wanted to learn more. The feeling of cannot wait for them to speak with complete sentence.
