wasteful things

It's the time to give and be grateful-and, to often, to be wasteful. Each year between Thanksgiving and New Year's People pitch tons of extra trash, with the bulk of it being packaging. A few tips for giving green: Reuse ribbon, or dispence with it by attaching a sprig of holly or a tree ornament in lieu of a bow. Wrap presents in old magazines, calendars, newspapers, or old bags.

I've just come across this post as a result of writing something similar today. Agree wholeheartedly with what you're saying. Now, if I can just get my family to agree not to buy wrapping paper next year, we'll be making progress!

Try making a couple of sample boxes and bags for you family to veiw. They might really like the idea and it might catch on. It is worth a try anyway I guess if you want to that is. I save all the cereal boxes and other boxes. You can pant them, cover them, glue things to them imagination is good. I hope you have some luck with them. Have a great day.

Well, we've made progress in some other areas regarding giving presents: there are so many of us that for everyone to buy for everyone had become ridiculous. Now we have a special bank account we all put a bit of money into each month, and at the end of the year one person buys for just one other person. Much more economic!

Great stuff! I wish there were more posts like this and they were more popular but I guess the lack of interest demonstrates why the world is as polluted as it is.

thank you. I always try to buy things that I can reuse. I am going to post some more green ideas as much as I can. Too many people complain about pollution when what they need to do is do more on their part to make it better

Love the ideas a lot. You can make a colleague of old magazine pages using a clear paste or just use some magic tape so the pages can be big enough to wrap larger gifts. Here's another idea I use. I have traveled a lot over the years and it always seems I come back with a map or two or three or 10, you know how it goes... you can never have too many maps. Anyway, I started using the maps as gift wrap. And everyone I have given a gift to wrapped in a map loved it. I always try to make the gift and map match some way. For instance my middle son was trying to discover his roots a few years ago and was getting every scrap of info on Ireland he could find. I had a map from Ireland from many years ago and wrapped a great new book about Ireland in it. He not only loved the book, he kept the map and put it in a frame too.
