What is the difference?

What is the difference between a sweet potato and a yam? They look the same to me. My daughter loves sweet potatoes and I was at the store earlier today and yams were 3pounds for $1. I got a few, but I am wondering if she will like them as much. Is there a difference?

Hmm, I had no idea there was a difference to be honest. I've always loved sweet potatoes, but I never really found out what the deal was with the whole sweet potato/yam thing. I'm glad I stopped by and learned!
