http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071116/ap_on_re_us/break_in_murder;_ylt=AgCF989yxOZ722kijdS1xEhH2ocA I have read this article and I am just outraged. This man and his family were at home minding their own business, when three African-American men came to their house and beat and threatened them for money and drugs. One of the victims is a 19 year old young man who is now living in a rehab center and can't even feed himself! The NAACP thinks that the prosecutors came down too hard on the only surviving man of the three intruders. I am sorry, does the NAACP think that the young man living in rehab who can't even live a normal life because of the baseball bat beating he took from these "intruders" wasn't harsh enough? Honestly, I don't think that prosecutors are too harsh, I think it is time that we dole out some real justice. Black, White, Green, Purple, I don't care. Crime has gotten out of hand in this country and it is high time that we feel safe in our homes again. These men broke into a house, beat the family and demanded money and drugs, what did they expect to happen? For the family to invite them to dinner? Yeah, if it was my family that was in this position your darn right I would have shot them too. What person wouldn't protect their family??? They were shot in the back because they were fleeing the scene of a crime. They weren't there on a social call...HELLO NAACP, when are you going to wake up, and take up real causes that desperately need your attention!!!! What do you guys think? Am I just off my rocker or am I justified in feeling the way I do?

what you describe goes beyond belief..there seems to be no end to the injustice that is going on. i seem all kinds of racism and what is good for the goose should be good for the gander but like you said..there is a double standard that goes on ..it makes you wonder if we are the land of the free?

I honestly think that race is used as a scapegoat far too much in this country. If your wrong your wrong, if you broke the law you broke the law. Your race should have nothing to do with that. I agree with you that this goes beyond belief.

Thanks Oreo! That is the truth and anyway you slice it if you are in the wrong, it doesn't matter what race you are, it's just wrong. I agree!

You come across these kinds of incidents very frequently in news papers and news channels. You are certainly right in feeling this way but unless there is awareness and change in attitude of people, nothing can happen in real life unlike the reel life.

This is a very true statement. It is sad to say, but the truth just the same. I hope and pray that this will change one day!

Hi mamasan34. I hear what you are saying. That homeowner was protecting what was his and the remaining man has to face the consequences, even if it was for his own act in this unfortunate event. We had a similar case here in Ireland last year. The law here is different to your country I think. But this homeowner shot an intruder in the back also as he was trying to flee. But as it turned out the homeowner was charged with murder and given a prison sentence!! Reason.... the intruder was shot in the back as he was trying to leave!!!! If he had shot him in self defence he would have gotten away with it. I think the law is a disgrace when it comes to people defending their family and their homes.
