I was reading the papers today and this was splashed all over the main page. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/311720/1/.html It is so dangerous to ask anyone to get onto the ledge, let alone tend to plants that are placed on the ledge! My goodness! And the best part of it is, the maid actually has enough guts in her to climb onto that ledge! What the heck was the employer thinking?!? Has it never occurred to her that the maid might fall from the ledge? Not to say that it is 10 stories high, it is dangerous even when it is on the second floor of the building! A more detailed write up can be found on http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest+News/Courts+and+Crime/STIStory_177042.html

when i read the news, the first thing that occurs to me is how stupid can the employer be? why can't she use something to shift the flower pots? it's not as if the planter ledge is so big. getting someone to do that is just plain madness. the maid has no choice but to comply coz of the implications. she might be sacked for not listening to her employer. given that she borrowed a large sum to come to singapore and work, it is unacceptable to her to be sent back. sometimes, they'd rather die than go back without money. that's the sad fact of the situation foreign maids face.

Yep, I agree with you totally. There are some employer of maid who just don't know how to handle one. Sad state of affairs, isn't it? I mean, if it was that easy to do it, why didn't they do it in the first place?

Some people are very insensitive about the welfare of their maids... they think that because they are paying them... the maids are obliged to do their bidding... even if it is quite dangerous... The maids on the other hand doesn't have any choice because of poverty... i just wish that well to do people who can afford to hire maids... should be responsible and sensitive enough on how to treat them properly and with dignity... they are people to... and not animals...

I cannot deny that some employers just do not know how to be employers. They never think that it would be dangerous to put a person in such a dangerous position. Much less a maid. As long as they are not the ones doing it, what do they care? I wish there were less such people in the world. To be able to live harmoniously, we must treat each other with respect. It is no wonder that some maids do not behave when they go into a home.

Some people are too cruel? Too callous? Too brainless? Or maybe too stingy to employ professionals with the right equipment to do the cleaning. Honestly if you ask me, if I am scared of doing that thing, I wouldn't ask my maid to do it. At least if I die, it is my own life. But if I ask my maid, well, I don't think her life is mine to take.

If only everyone thinks like you do. Then there will be heck of a lot less cases in the courts. Wasting tax payer's money to trial these idiots who do not think. Not everyone thinks so selflessly. I mean, common sense will tell you that it is dangerous to be doing that! But to these people, as long as it is not endangering their own lifes, it doesn't matter who does the job. Selfish!
