we live in such a materialistic world these days, stores are persuading us to buy bigger and better. what do you do to combat that or do you buy expensive presents?

Yes I agree with you, we are so materialistic. i think the best it was in the kindergarden when we exchange gifts with our friends, but we have to do them by oruself. It was really nice. Now you just buy something what the person need, but where is the heart in it?In price? It seems to me like more expensive thing the people are more happy, but did not care if the I buy the present or my secretary.

To me it is the thought that counts I like the things the kdis make me from stuff laying around the house better than the expensive gifts I get because it is somethig that is made themselves from there heart.

When I was growing up, my mum was more delighted and happy when I made something for her from own hands, either at school or in an after school club or even when I made it at home. The thought counts more, and to me when someone gives me a present if they have given it a lot of thought I'd much rather that than for them to spend a fortune on me without thinking would he like that? Sometimes people want to buy expensive stuff to show off or to laud it over others. I keep my own principles, if you shop around, or use sites like Ebay and Amazon you can easily pick up a handsome bargain and save yourself a fortune too!

For me it is the thought of giving that counts and not the gift itself whether expensive or less expensive is the gift. If I buy something to give as a gift, I think of the person and that the gift will be of use or value to the person.

It all depends on the "right" gift in my opinion. Actually, most of the time when i try to "upgrade" my kid's wishlist, they get upset about not having the $3 stuffed animal when they have the $40 Talking computer. lol

Both if the thought is trully there and counting, (meaning thoughtfull) then so is the gift! Seems to me the gift that counts the most is the thought!?

Money can never buy Happiness, and it is the thought that counts more than the gift. People always need to remember not everyone is a Bill Gates and can afford to buy you that expensive item on your Wish list, so you need to live for today enjoying what you have, so when Great things ever come you will learn to appreciate them even more.

I buy what my loved ones need or really want..I do not buy just for the sake of giving a gift..I know so many people that buy and buy and throw or give away things that haven't been used up..We can only use so much so why have all this extra stuff unless it has a memory attached to it! xoxoxoxoxo

To me it's the thought that counts. Why else would I have bought Halloween decorations for my son for Christmas? lol...my daughter thinks it's going to be his favorite gift this year!

I don't buy expensive gifts, but I manage to find the RIGHT gift... whenever I talk with friends and family I make a note of things they say they want. Online or over the phone, I keep a notepad nearby... when I hear a 'want', I write it down. Then I can shop sales or find the best price at my leisure. The only glitch in this system is the person who goes out and buys whatever they want... from me, they usually get cash and a handmade card!
